Bases From A Screencap - Coloring PSP8
My first tutorial. A very simple method I discovered for improving screecaps to go into icons or bases.
Program: PSP8 (Could be easily translated into others.)
Expected: Basic knowledge of PSP features. (Crop, Resize, Fill, Layer Properties.)
Warning: Slightly Image heavy.. there aren't too many though.
This:
To This:
1. We start off with our cap from http://nightly-whispers.com/lotr/ (Which belongs to
shagalote)
(It's quite large so this version is a bit smaller.)

2. Then we crop the portion you want. Using the
(crop) tool, and get this:

3. Now resize it. Go to Image > Resize. Then set it to 100x100 (or whatever size you want) and make sure Smart Size is set for the Resample Using: box. We get this:

4. Now for the color altering stage. Create 2 new Raster layers. Find 2 (it actually doesn't have to be 2, but 2 work well to balance each other out) colors in your image to use for the next part. It's works best with darker colors. I used these:
(#67523E)
(#232521)
Fill each layer with one of those color. Set both of those layers to Dodge. You can play around with this by changing the opacities are adding mroe dodge layers of the same or different color. We get this:

5. Now merge your layers, and add a border of your choice. You're DONE! I used this technique on these bases as well.

Don't forget to play around with the colors, different icons need different color for this depending on the color scheme of the icon. Duh! Hope this was easy for you...
