How do I achieve these colouring techniques?

I know that these aren't icons but I want to be able to color icons in the same style and I can't figure it out. >.<

So, this one first; I'm guessing that there is a desaturated screen layer and a desaturated soft light layer or something, but the red still seems so vibrant so I'm stumped. o.O


And in this one it's sort of the same thing except I really have no idea where to start. O_O



If anyone could help me it'd be very much appreciated. :)
