For PS. It's a fairly small tutorial. I'm not sure if anyone will want to make it, but I figured "why not?" So here I am. :)
We'll be going from to .
Start off with your image. I took 3,697 (!) caps of the movie Reefer Madness yesterday and today, so I used one of Miss Poppy (Neve Campbell). *cough*eventhoughIdon'tlikeher*cough* My original cap is here. It's not the best quality because it was an .avi, but we'll have to deal. 'Kay?
Crop your base and sharpen it, now's probably the best time to smooth skin if you feel like doing that. I cropped it so that I came up with:
Not such a bad quality anymore. Make a new layer, set to "Color" at 100% opacity, and fill it with black.
Duplicate your original base and move it to above the color layer. Set it to "Screen" at 100%.
I then made a new layer and Copy Merged (Shift+Ctrl+C). I'm not a big fan of flattening the image because I often mess around with the layers long after I first make them. I duplicated the Copy Merged layer and set it to "Soft Light" at 100%.
I pasted one of detoxcocktails's textures on top and Gaussian blurred it. I don't remember what settings I used, but this is what I came up with (the texture was originally a big yellow half-circle in the top left corner and a dark brownish color at the bottom right):
I set that layer on "Multiply" at 100%.
I then made a new layer, "Difference" at 100%, and used a gradient I made (just a plain black and dark blue):
Then, I pasted another of detoxcocktails's textures on top, but with no blurring or anything. I set it to "Pin Light" and kept it at 100%.
I duplicated the original base and moved it up to the very top. I set it to "Soft Light" at 20%.
Then, using the selection & fill tools on a new layer, I made a black border around the icon.
Then, I added the text right above the bottom border. It's barely visible, but I wasn't trying to make it really visible anyways. I'm weird like that. "Down at the old five and dime" is set at Georgia, size 5.6, and the spacing is set to 25 (the AV button with the arrow below it on the character palette, I can't remember the name).
And, if you followed all of that (hopefully not exactly, though), you'd have:
Yay! Now wasn't that fun? (Feel free to lie to me.) I'm sure it was confusing, so sorry! If that helped out any of you, I'd really love comments, and if that confused you really badly, I'd wanna hear that too ^^;; Oh, and if you make something using this, I'd love to see it. :D
