old photo look

This is how I make my graphics have an old photo look to them - i think everyone has their own way of making these kinds of graphics but I hope I can help anyone out :) This tutorial is for PSP 8 and its not for beginners.

I'll be using this picture of Sara Lumholdt from A-TEENS.COM (go figure, lol)

I resize and sharpen to make it into small banner (icon size comes later)

Image >> Greyscale >> Image >> Increase Color Depth >> 16 Million (24 Bit)

Layers >> New Raster Layer >> Fill it with #19202F set blend mode to exlusion

Copy background >> paste over raster 1 and set the blend mode to any of the following (softlight 100% opacity or burn 50% opacity) i set mine to softlight since the picture is already so dark

Add a new layer >> Fill it with a creamy color like #EDE2CD and set the blend mode to either muliply or burn (whichever looks the best) i set mine to multuply

Merge your layers. Now this part is a little harder.

I want to color the hair so I take the point-to-point selction tool set the feather to 7 and check anti-alias and carefully select the hair.

To color the hair I go to Adjust >> Hue and Saturation >> Colorize >> Hue:23 ; Saturation 106

I select the eyes to make them blue and change the feather number to 2 - Hue:162 ; Saturation 64

I select the lips - Hue:23 ; Saturation 106 - this is what now I have :)

If you want add a new layer and fill it again with a creamy color and set the blend mode to Multiply and lower the opacity to 60%.

I add some brushes from Nadine and I add my text and borders and this is my end result :)
