Photoshop CS Problem

Okay, I know this is not related to icons, but I've been a member of this community for quite some time and I feel comfortable with the people who usually lurk around here, so I was hoping someone would be able to help me. If it's better I go to another community, just tell me so and I will. Thanks in advance.

I know this question gets asked a lot with people whose HD don't have enough space, yadda, yadda, but that is not the case with me. I've looked for an nswer but nothing so far has proved useful in my case.

I know that Photoshop prefers an additional HD with lots of space to perform scratch disk operations, and that you can go to Edit > Plug-ins > Blah blah and change your scratch disk settings to an additional HD amongst other things.

The thing is that that's exactly what I did when I first installed the program and Photoshop was running beautifully... until the spare HD died on me a couple of days ago. Of course, now whenever I try to start up Photoshop I get the following error message:

"Could not initialise Photoshop because scratch disks are full

I'm guessing this is because Photoshop simply can't find the spare HD since it's not there anymore, but the program is still installed on my current working hard drive. I'd gladly change the settings to use my current HD, except Photoshop simply WON'T start up and so I can't even acces the Edit pannel.

I was wondering if there was anyway I could override this problem. If not, I'll simply re-install the program but I don't want to lose the patterns and brushes I have made in Photoshop. The brushes and patterns were saved in a folder on the HD that died, so those are lost, but if Photoshop could still run, it would have the brushes and patterns that are already installed within the program. I'm guessing Photoshop actually stores them in a folder (probably in the Photoshop folder within the Program Files directory) as you install/make them. If so, is there a way I can save the brushes and patterns that are already installed in the program before removing it, so that I can install them again when I reintall Photoshop?

I hope that made sense to somebody out there...

Thanks a lot for any help you may be willing to provide ^__^
