Buffy/Spike icon tutorial

Ok, first ever tutorial coming up. I used PSP7, and it should be fairly easy to translate, though I can't be sure as I've never used anything else.

In this tutorial we will be going from this:Image hosted by Photobucket.com to this: Image hosted by Photobucket.com in only 6 easy steps.

1) I started off with a screencap that I got from here and resized it to 100x100.

2) It was WAY too dark, so I duplicated the background and set the blend mode to screen at 100% opacity.

3) Created a new layer, applied a gradient by crumblingwalls, and set the blend mode to multiply at 100%.

Here is the gradient:

And here is the icon with the gradient applied:

4) Created another new layer and applied a default gradient to it, and set the blend mode to overlay, once more at 100% opacity.

Here is the gradient:

And here is the icon with the gradient applied to it:

5) Added the text "I can be alone" in the font Ernest at 7 pt. and the text "with you" in the font Carpenter ICG at 16 pt. Both fonts are fill white and stroke null. The text looked too bright, so I set the blend mode to soft light, opacity 100%.

6) To finish the icon, I created one more new layer and picked a border brush in black, though I can't for the life of me remember where I got it from.

Here is the brush:

The blend mode is normal and the opacity is, what? You guessed it; 100%.

And, viola, here is the finished icon:

Again, that was my first tutorial, so if anything is unclear or you need any help with it, let me know, and I will be glad to assist you. Feedback is welcomed and greatly appreciated. :)
