PSP Font Help

I'm not sure if this is the place I should be asking this, since it's a rather odd question...When I first got Paint Shop Pro 7, my fonts looked really nice, and the text edges flowed and joined well. For some reason now, the fonts look sort of disjointed, the curves don't join well, and it's kind of a glaring effect. When I used to add text, you could see when you enlarged it that there was shading around the edges of the text, so that it looked a lot nicer. Did I hit some function that stopped this? I love making icons, but I'm hesitant now to add any kind of text because it looks bad. Any ideas on what would cause this?
