meh, I think you might find this one hard to understand, because
the 7th step is confusing, but if you try, you'll get it just right.
Anyone willing to help me try to get a paid account? anyways, here's
your tutorial!
1. first, start out with this Gretchen icon. Isn't she LYKE SO FETCH!? haha. no. anyways paste it into PS.
2. second of all, go to IMAGE >> ADJUSTMENTS >> AUTO
CONTRAST. Lookie at you now Gretchen, you're on the brightside today.
3. now, let's sharpen it up. go to FILTER >> SHARPEN >> SHARPEN. now you can see her and her so-fetch-iness!
4. now, let's duplicate the layer, by LAYER >> DUPLICATE LAYER. Then set the blend mode to HARD LIGHT.
5. AHH, look at her! she's more red than Rachel McAdam's character when
she blows up! So let's desaturate it, by going to IMAGE >>
ADJUSTMENTS >> DESATURATE.
6. Well, she obviously looks ready to battle and backstab some people,
but she's too dark, let's brighten her up, by duplicating the LAYER 1
COPY, and setting it's blend mode to SCREEN at 50%.
7. That's what i'm talking about. Now...to the text. Let's make a new
layer, and make a rectangular white box. then, set the blend mode to
NORMAL at 50% opacity. Let's go to EDIT >> TRANSFORM >>
ROTATE and rotate the box. make it slash the bottom right corner. Now,
add the text, and make sure the text layer is above the box layer.
Write 'So Fetch' in Arial, size 14, Italic. and then go to EDIT
>> TRANSFORM >> ROTATE. and rotate it to the box.
8. now, let's add white border. So make a new layer, fill it with
white, and select the inside, make sure feather is 2px, and press the
delete button about 6 times. Flatten the image, save! You'll end up
with a simple, yet elegant icon. :)
