Full PSP7 Tutorial: Color Modifications
To learn how to go from this:

Note: All the images for the tutorial were saved as .jpg so the images look a little blurry, but jpg's are smaller in size and so load faster. The original images are sharper.
Start with your base. Mine came from this image from
farrell_stills. Crop it something like this:

Next duplicate your base layer and set the layer blend mode to screen.
Go back to your base layer and de-saturate it: Go to Colors >> Adjust >> Hue/Saturation/Lightness, or use the shortcut key Shift + H.
Your base layer should now be black and white. The result of the base and duplicate layer should look something like this:

Now create a new blank layer.
Fill it with a dark blue color.
#1B1C3B
Set the layer to exclusion.

Duplicate the base layer and drag it to the top of the palette. Set it to soft light.

Duplicate the base again and drag the duplicate to the top. Set the blend mode to hue. You can't tell the difference much but I liked the subtle change.

Your layer palette should now look like this:

Next use this gradient from
crumblingwalls on soft light.
>>
And then this gradient from
crumblingwalls on soft light again.
>>
This gradient again on on blend mode color at 30% opacity
>>
(All gradients should be on seperate layers.)
New layer.
Now I used the paintbrush tool on size 3, 100 hardness, 100 opacity, 25 step, 100 density and outlined the side of Colin's frame:

Go to Effects >> Blur >> Gaussian Blur with the radius set at 2.00.

Set the layer to soft light.

Duplicate that layer.

New layer.
This texture I made by myself and set it to screen 35%
>>
Next this brush I made by myself in black on a new layer set to overlay.
>>
I used the font Georgia in black for this & sign and positioned it on a new layer set to soft light.
>>
Duplicate the & layer and set opacity to 50%

However over his sleeve I thought it was too dark so using the eraser tool I erased thebottom half of the &
>>
New layer.
Text. I forget what font I used. But the opacity was set to 75% and normal blend mode.

New layer.
Add a simple 1px border:
Selections >> Select All
Slections >> Modify >> Contract >> 1
Selections >> Invert
Now fill the selection with black.
Set the layer blend mode to Burn and 67% opacity.
Save as .png for the clearest image.
