Tutorial time
As requested we'll be making this icon:

It's totally easy, and you can form it into an action for ceating bases.
1. Take a pic and crop it to 100 px
2. sharpen. I mean really. Sharpen the hell out of it! It can be pixely, you can still use the smudge tool later to smooth it.

2. copy the base, desaturate, set on overlay.

3. add a new transparent layer and fill it with a gradient going from #D7B4B5 to #F6D297 (or the other way round, doesn't matter), set to overlay.

3. add new transparent layer, fill with dark blue color ( #0A182C) , set to exclusion. And we are done.
(if you think you have sharpened it too much, use the smudge tool, set it really low (10 maybe) and then carefully smooth the desaturated layer. That should help. )
