Surrendering to Destiny
I was inspired by the Obi-Wan tutorial a few days back and decided to make my own Ep III-themed icon tutorial. :) I use PS7, but it's probably translatable to other programs.
The tutorial is very image-heavy. :)

To start off with, we want to find a nice cap of Ani. I used this one, which I got from a spoiler site.
Crop it to 100x100 using the "crop" tool, making sure to keep it off-center, since it just looks better that way. You up with something like this:

Next, that layer, and set the blend mode to "screen", opacity 100%, which leaves you with:

Make a new layer and flood-filled it with #3F0408, which is a dark red, and set the blend mode to "Exclusion", Opacity 55%.

Then another blank layer, which gets filled with #5E151A, a slightly lighter red than before. Set blend mode to "Color Burn" and the opacity to 100%.

Dark, eh? Well, we can fix that. Duplicate your screened layer and drag it to the top. Lower the opacity to 88%.

Make a new layer and flood-fill it with #2C2223, and hit the "vector mask" button at the bottom of the layers palette. Now select the Eraser tool and choose a texture brush from your brush lists. I don't know who made the one I used, unfortunately. Anyway... set the blend mode of that layer to "Soft Light", and the opactity to 40%. It's a subtle difference, but it works. You'll end up with this:

Next, take one of
dragong's "contrast" brushes... I used this one:

And set it on "Color Dodge", opacity 100%.

The textures I use in the next three steps were all made by Mia. I'm not sure of her LJ username. If anyone knows, please let me know so I can credit.
Take this texture:

Set blend mode to "Overlay", opacity at 100%.

Now, that's nice, but it's not enough. Take another texture...

and erase all the stuff covering Ani's face. Set the blend mode to "Screen", opacity 100%.

One last texture!

Set to "Multiply", opacity 34%.

The textures kind of overwhelm Ani's features now, so duplicate your screened copy of the base again, and drag it up to the top. Set the blend mode to "Soft Light", opacity at 100%.

Muuuch better. Now go to Layer -> New Adjustment Layer -> Brightness/Contrast. Increase both until you get something you like.

Now take a text brush (like the one by
crazy_perfume01 that I'm using), and apply it to the right side, in a dark color taken from the icon. Set the blend mode to "Color Dodge" and the opacity to 100%. Again, subtle but nice.

I tend to do my borders before my main text, so here is where I take a border...

(this one is by
ellicons, I think)
And apply it in the same color as the text brush from the last step. Set the blend mode to "Pin Light" and the opacity to 100%.

Now it's time for text! I used the words "Chosen One", from Obi-Wan's line in the trailer. The font is Minion. "Chosen" is in 18pt, all lower-case, and "One" is in 14pt, all caps. Both at opacity 68%, blend mode "Normal", with the "Outer Glow" blending option chosen.

And there you have it. Anakin Skywalker, future Sith Lord.
