I've made several tutorials over at my icon journal, and I thought I'd share them here. They aren't tutorials showing you how to make a particular icon, but simply showing you how to do some different effects with images that you might want to use when making icons. All but one are about working with converting images to grayscale or working with grayscale images. This is my first time writing tutorials so there are probably some mistakes. They assume that you have some knowledge of the program. They're all written for Adobe Photoshop CS. I'm not sure if they'll translate to earlier versions, but you can certainly try.

They are image heavy. And I will warn you, a few of them were made using pictures of models and actresses in publicity shots in lingirie. Nothing is exposed, but I thought I should put a warning just the same. On to the tutorials.

(Using the Channel Mixer to convert color images to grayscale)

(Converting an image to grayscale using Hue/Saturation Adjustment Layers)

(Adding a touch of color to a grayscale image)

(Split Toning an image to give a grayscale image two colors)

(Using Adjustment Layers and Channels to reveal color in one part of a color image converted to grayscale)

(Simulating infrared light to create a mgical forest scene)

(Getting a soft, dreamy effect with images without losing too much detail)

I hope that someone will find them useful. Feel free to ask questions if anything confuses you.
