PSP8 - Moving/Loading Brushes
Okay, this is a quick tutorial on how to change the brush location/move brushes around in PSP8.
There will be no pictures since I'm not at home (I'm updating from school).
I'm also assuming you know how to do all this. If you need me to explain or anything, you'll have to wait till I get home and can create pictures to help explain.
Note: Every brush in PSP8 has 2 brush files. One is the normal name that you named it when you imported it, and the other name is BrushTip before the name that you named it. In order for this to work, you MUST move both files to the same location.
Note #2: You must move the folders outside of your C->Program Files->Jasc Software->PSP8->Brushes folder in order for this to work.
So here's what I did last night for about 2 hours:
I opened my C->Program Files->Jasc Software->PSP8->Brushes folder.
I created 4 folders within my C->Program Files->Jasc Software->PSP8->Brushes folder (to be moved later) - one for border brushes, one for misc brushes (aka brushes larger than 100x100), one for decorative (aka brushes that fit onto a 100x100 icon), and one for text brushes.
Then I opened PSP8, created a 500x500 blank image, filled it in with black (it was the right click color I had there), and that way I could test out brushes if I needed to.
Then I opened my brush palatte, so that I could figure out what brushes are what. I would group it by lj user (almost all my brushes are labeled with the lj-user name and then a # or whatever), and after I had a group of 5-10 brushes figured out, I would go into my C->Program Files->Jasc Software->PSP8->Brushes folder and move those (both brush files!) where they needed to go. I kept doing this for quite a while. (I personally create a subfolder within those folders for each lj-user, that way it's not too many files when you open the folder at any other time)
Then I started moving them outside of my C->Program Files->Jasc Software->PSP8->Brushes folder. I decided to create a folder in my C->Program Files->Jasc Software->PSP8 folder called Brushes - Borders, Brushes - Decorative, Brushes - Misc, Brushes - Text and just move the brushes into each applicable folder.
Then I opened the brush palatte again. On the bottom right of the palatte (right next to the scrollbar) is a folders icon (3 folders overlapping each other). I clicked that, and it opens the pathways to the brush files. I unchecked all except the default (you can't uncheck that one, that's why you have to move the brush folders out of C->Program Files->Jasc Software->PSP8->Brushes folder, because otherwise they're still in your default folder). I added the new pathways to that list, and kept them unchecked for the moment.
Note: This doesn't get rid of the brushes just yet. What you need to do is check all the brush folders you just added, let that load, then uncheck them, and let that load, and that's when you'll see results. Or you can close out of PSP8, and open it back up, but since my brushes take forever to load, I find its easier to check and uncheck and just let it load.
I kept doing this until I got exhausted.
This takes a long time, because you have to figure out which folder each set of brushes goes in. If all your brushes have lj user names in the filenames, you may just want to separate by lj user. I find its easier for me to separate into these 4 categories (borders, decorative, misc, text) and create subfolders for each lj user.
Create the folders however you like. The main things you need to know is that you have to move the brushes. And every time you import new brushes, you're going to have to move them. Its a process, but it does become quicker the more you do it.
Let me know if people need pictures of the things I talked about, or an "Idiot's Guide" to what I just talked about. I'm assuming that if you know how to use brushes and import brushes, then what I just wrote is going to help without needing additional information. And hey! If I figured it out on my own, I don't see why you guys can't =D
