Colors abound

I've been trying to make the colors on my screencaps 'pop' like the ones in the examples, tried selective coloring and color balance to enhance them but no matter how I try they don't seem as 'lively' and just colorful enough. Is this effect achieved by using textures or maybe the burn tool? Any tips or help is appreciated.
Edit: Using Photoshop CS3 by Fleurtation
