Eliminating Graininess in a screencap
First time poster here so be gentle and if this has already been addressed, just point me in the right direction.
This is driving me crazy, but I've notice that it happens a lot when I try to color/normalize The Vampire Diaries screen caps. I use HD screencaps, but when I crop them at 500x width or higher and start my coloring process, even if I get the coloring right, I most likely have to add a surface blur or something of the nature to try to remove the graininess that occurs.
Example: Very clean original cap to work with/ graininess isn't even an issue

Colored cap: I haven't even finish and the graininess starts to become more prominent. I haven't sharpen it or anything, but it just doesn't look clean anymore.

I just want to know how to remove graininess from the cap. I guess prepping the cap before coloring is the key, but I'm not really sure what to do. Help please?
