Copy Merged...

Alright - I've heard a bunch of people talking about the "copy merged" command in Photoshop.

I went to go try it and it was all greyed out. The PS help files aren't telling me how to actually use it...

So can someone enlighten me on the joys of this "Copy Merged" thing?
