I feel really stupid asking this question, I've only recently come back to using photoshop after two/three years...

and I am trying to make a new colour balance and channel mixer layer in a peice I'm working on, but it keeps coming up like this:

and I don't know how to make the adjustments?
any help would be appreciated... (:
