Steps: 10
Difficulty: Easy-medium
PSD: Yes

01 Prepare your base. I used Smart Sharpen on mine (default settings).

02 Duplicate your base and set it to Screen at 60%. This is to make it a lot brighter, since my base was originally quite dull.

03 Make a new Colour Fill Layer with #020016 - set it to Exclusion at 100%.

04 Duplicate your Colour Fill Layer. This makes the whites less bright and dark blues like this tend to give icons a slight vintage feel.

05 Create a new Selective Colour Layer.
Reds: -100 | 100 | 100 | -50
Yellows: 0 | 0 | 100 | -100
Cyans: 100 | 0 | 0 | 0
Whites: 0 | 0 | 50 | 0
Neutrals: 20 | 20 | 20 | -20
Blacks: 50 | 0 | 0 | 0
This makes the image a lot brighter again, especially his skin. His hair also has a lot more contrast.

06 Create a new Selective Colour Layer.
Reds: -25 | 55 | 60 | -10
Whites: 100 | 50 | 20 | -20
Neutrals: 20 | 20 | 20 | -31
This enhances the reds quite a bit, and there's a lot more blue in the shadows.

07 Create a new Selective Colour Layer.
Reds: -45 | 5 | 0 | 5
Yellows: 0 | -50 | -15 | 0
Cyans: -50 | 0 | 0 | 0
Magentas: -100 | 100 | -100 | 0
Neutrals: 0 | 0 | 5 | 0
Blacks: 0 | 0 | 0 | 10
This gives the icon a lot more contrast.

08 Make a new Colour Fill Layer with #872d2d - set it to Lighten at 70%. This blends the dark parts of his hair in with the rest so it looks more natural.

09 Make a new Colour Fill Layer with #cf6262 - set it to Screen at 60%. This makes the whole icon lighter and gives it a pink tinge.

10 Duplicate your base and drag it to the top. Desaturate it (Ctrl + Shift + U) and set it to Soft Light at 80% to give it more contrast.

And that's it!
