How to create this effect in PSP9:
, ,

*Warning* Lots of pictures. Might take some time to load. *Warning*

This tutorial consists mostly of gradient layers and is for those familiar with the PSP9 software. If you're just a beginner, I'm sure this tutorial will help you. I really hope so.

First, get your base by cropping and resizing. Then adjust the brightness/contrast by putting the brightness to about +30 through +50

Now comes the gradients. The layer properties and settings are right beneath that layer.

Lighten Layer
100%

Color(legacy) Layer
100%

Soft Light Layer
80%

Exclusion Layer
50%

Copy the background, the layer settings to Soft Light at 50%, and drag it up to the top, so that's your layer that's on top of the other layers.

Exclusion Layer
45%

Copy the background again, put it to Lighten at 50%, bring it to the top.

Exclusion Layer (#200C76)
60%

Now comes the part where it seperates. If you want to creat the SPIKE & DRU icon, add your text and with your Dropper Tool, choose the lightest color from your icon and add a diagonal grid brush in Exclusion. Then a border brush in Exclusion.

If you want to make the CORDY, and ANGEL icon, read on.

Burn Layer
60%

Go to Effects>Texture Effects>Blinds. Make the Width 2, and the Opacity 50. For the color, just take the Dropper Tool and choose the lightest color from your current layer. Click OK.

Copy the background again, put it to Soft Light at 60%

With the dropper tool, choose a color from your icon and add your text (I'm hoping you guys already know how to do that.) in Georgia at size 7.

Make a new layer and add a border brush in the same color you did with your blinds. Put the settings to Exclusion, Burn, Overlay, Hue, or Luminance(legacy). Everything works well with that.

Here's the outcome:

I hope this really helped. You can adjust the settings to your likings, or you might have to change it a little bit, depends on the color of your base.
