Pfft. I could do THAT. (PS6)
You know, I really SHOULD have gone to bed. But naaaah. Instead, I give you this. It's my attempt at banging out an icon in the style of some of the ones I've seen here. Since I may have been aping fangirl/boy efforts, usage and/or design of this icon may result in several side effects, including unhealthy obsessions and an increase in the usage of the word "squee".
The subject of this icon is the band Hot Water Music. You make this, yes?

We start with this picture, yanked from a Google Images search for "Hot Water Music":

Rectangular marquee, constrained aspect ratio of 1-to-1. Grab SOMETHING. I picked this, then resized to 100x100. Oh, and I fiddled with the levels a tad.

Copy, new layer, paste, sharpen. Make that one screen mode at 100% opacity.

New layer, filled with 0/147/252 (the kids tell me that's #0093FC). Change that blending mode to screen, opacity at 54%.

Found the band's logo and made a brush or three from it. I selected most of the logo for this one, then resized it to 100x100. (All of the brushes I made are available at the end.) New layer, change the color to black (#000000) and slap that on there. Blending's soft light at 100%.

New layer, for it is text time. Font's Dominican (check dafont.com for that, as I forget where I found it) at 9pt with strong anti-aliasing. Text should be 136/0/0 (read: #880000). I put this at x:15, y:86 (or something like that, I'm writing this all up after the fact). Change the blending options to Bevel and Emboss. We're going to go with:
Everything else is the default. Blending mode's Overlay.

Copy the text layer and change the bevel settings on the new one. We're going with the following:
Change the blending mode to Normal, and you. Are. DONE.

Brushes? Oh yeah, those too. I used brush #2.

It's my first tutorial of this sort. How'd it go? Wanna use the finished product, feel free to do so with proper attribution. Dunno if I did the brushes right... they're GIF's, so you should be able to import 'em.

- Outer Bevel
- Technique: Smooth

- Direction: down
- Size: 1px
- Soften set at 3px
- Angle should be 30 degrees
Everything else is the default. Blending mode's Overlay.
Copy the text layer and change the bevel settings on the new one. We're going with the following:
- Inner Bevel
- Technique: Chisel Hard
- Depth: 750%
- Direction: Up
Change the blending mode to Normal, and you. Are. DONE.
