Ask the Maker 2017 with NEW ADDITION!

July 1st means it's time for round 9 of Ask the Maker here at icon_talk!

Here you'll get the chance to ask icon makers who sign up questions about their icons and other graphics. You can ask for tutorials, guides/"How to", or ask any other questions related their work so these makers can create a Q&A post with the answers to all the questions they get. As always, .PSD files will not be allowed.

NEW in 2017 - ASK EVERYONE!
This is a new addition in 2017, with it's own thread in the comments where you can ask everyone general questions about iconmaking. Or you're wondering about a certain technique and the makers of the icons you have as examples are no longer on LJ, you can post those icons and ask for tips on how to achieve it (DO NOT ask for a complete recreation like the same image, crop). You can ask for texture, font, text recommendation and icon inspiration (credit the makers) and anything else you can think of. Everyone who wants to, can ask and answer and contribute to the conversations in this thread.

You can link to already made tutorials, you can write tutorials (again, do not completely recreate other peoples icons) and you can write your tips and tricks out in the comments, or just carry out conversations sharing your opinions, techniques and advice about all things icon making.

This whole thread will be added to the master list with all the other specific tutorials made by the signed up makers.

There is no pressure, you don't have to sign up, you can answer all the questions you want. Both signed up makers and other can leave questions and answer them here. Hopefully this will be fun and spark some conversations and maybe you'll make some new friends as well!

If you have any questions for me, the mod about this, ask them in the questions thread at the top of the comments section.

If you are an icon maker and you're willing to write tutorials, guides or answer questions (Q&A's), please sign up here with your name and where you post your work. Please state what you're willing to do/answer.. Use this posting template to make it easier:

There is no time limit in which the signed up makers have to write these tutorials or answer questions. I trust that you actually plan to fulfill the requests within a reasonable amount of time. Please let people know if you find out you cannot fulfill the requests though, try not to leave people hanging.

All tutorials/Q&A etc. need to be posted in your community/journal and be posted publicly. .PSDs are not allowed in any shape or form in the posts or in the comments (here or at your posts).

Everything must be new and written for this activity. Old posts will not be added to the master list.

In-depth explanations on tutorials is not a must, but highly encouraged.

When you finish your requests, post a link to them as a reply to the original request comment here. That way, me and the person requesting will be able to see them and I can add them to the master list. Please check and see if the maker already wrote a tutorial or answered your questions before this activity, in their community/journal.

You can request only tutorials for graphics that were made by that particular maker. Request for larger graphics are okay (post only the URL's to those). Please provide the icons you're asking about like this:

Please keep in mind that there's no guarantee that your request will be filled. The maker you asked may receive too many requests or simply don't remember how they made a specific icon/graphic, hopefully they will let you know if they cannot fulfill your request.

Just a reminder for the makers that signed up for latest Ask The Maker here at icon_talk! If you have not already posted the links to all the tutorials you have written, to your thread, please do so, HERE.

That way the masterlist will be complete and all the tutorials written will be in one place and easily accessible to everyone.

If you're unsure if you posted the links or not, check out the master list. If your tutorials are not listed there, you have not posted the links.

The masterlist has been continually updated, so go check it out if you missed it.

There will be another Ask The Maker here in June/July 2016, so keep an eye out for that.

I was contacted a couple of months ago by a few people asking if there is going to be a new round of "Ask the Maker" this year. And yes, there is!

Like last year, I decided to host it in July, so that means, round 6 of "Ask the Maker" will kick of in 4 days, on July 1st 2014. So, if there's anything you would like to ask your favorite icon makers, you have this weekend to prepare and get your questions written and/or icons examples saved and ready for this Tuesday!

Internet issues resolved, sort of. The last icons I made were done on my sister's computer, the one with PS Elements 4 and the screen from hell... The one that was my favourite actually placed third at nexticon which gave me a little boost. Looking forward to making more icons and be part of a more or less active icon community with a positive atmosphere. :)

Ask the maker 5.0

It's July 15th and it's time for round 5 of Ask the Maker! here at icon_talk

Here you'll get the chance to ask icon makers who sign up questions about their icons and other graphics. You can ask for tutorials, guides/"How to", or ask any other questions regarding their work so the makers can compile a Q&A post with the answers to all the questions they get. As always, .PSD files will not be allowed.

Please make sure you read though the rules below, before you comment.

I'm a maker and I want to sign up:

Please do not sign up if you know that you can't or do not plan to fulfill the requests you get.

There is no time limit in which the signed up makers have to write these tutorials or answer questions. I trust that you actually plan to fulfill the requests within a reasonable amount of time, but we all know that life happens. Please let people know if you find out you cannot fulfill the requests though, try not to leave people hanging.

All tutorials/Q&A etc. need to be posted in your community/journal and be posted publicly. .PSDs are not allowed in any shape or form in the posts or in the comments (here or at your posts).

Everything must be new and written for this activity. Old posts will not be added to the master list.

In-depth explanations on tutorials is not a must, but highly encouraged.

Reply to the sign up comments of the maker you want to ask, with requests for tutorials and/or questions about the makers icons or other graphics.
