Mum to the garklet and G2, wife to nmg, I'm an academic librarian at the University of Southampton, having previously been at the University of Bath and the Open University. Originally from N. Ireland I have little left of my Ulster accent but still have a great love and hankering for soda bread and decent black pudding.
I know more than I would have wanted to about infant egg allergy (although happily the garklet has now outgrown his), miscarriage (as of November 2010 I have had 7 first trimester miscarriages) and anencelphaly (we lost a pregnancy to this lethal deformity in February 2009). I know little about mediaeval history as almost two decades have passed since I graduated as a mediaevalist and I haven't had use the knowledge on a day-to-day basis since: I remember the gists but not the details, much to my shame. On the brighter side, I know a bit about research data, GDPR, open research, breastfeeding toddlers, Radio 4 schedules, Harry Potter fandom, mid-20th century fashion and design and baking chocolate cakes (both eggy and egg-free!) :)
