I have a good amount of tattoos, none of which I regret. I follow a lot of ink artists on Insta, and, every once in a while — quite often, actually — I scroll past something that makes me wish I had more virgin skin to festoon with other people's art. I don't like getting ink I can't easily see, so a back tat is unlikely. I have a hummingbird over my left nipple, and plans for the rest of my front torso, but i need to finish losing weight to tighten the canvas for that. I have some space on my left arm, and plans for that are reserved for Carlos Bautistab, maestro de San Jose Del Pacifico here in Oaxaca. I also have some space on both calves. Right now, though, I can't get any at all, because I am fighting what is likely Bullous Pemphigoid, a nasty autoimmune malady that has my own body attacking my skin. It is mostly in remission right now, because I got a hefty shot of prednisone in the ass, but, after I return from my upcoming EEUU trip, I am likely going to undergo a two week oral steroid regimen. Yuk. Then, there is the edema in my right calf, also yuk. I may have chronic veinous insufficiency in that leg as well. I will find out after the Pemphigoid is vanquished.

Anyway, if you ever pass through Tucson, where there are a plethora of tattoo parlors, Johnny Jinx at Broken Clover is one of my faves, even though I don't have his art on me.

I don't care what any of the hindsight 20/20 armchair quarterbacks say, I am proud to have voted for this man twice and equally proud of my country for electing him. Of course he wasn't perfect. NOBODY IS. He was a damned sight better than any president in my lifetime, before or since. He freaking tried to make our country better for everyone. He compromised ideals, both his and mine and probably yours, in order to do so. THAT IS HOW IT WORKS. Politics is the art of the possible — Otto Von Bismarck.

1. How often do you hear live music?

I think I've seen 10-12 live shows since I moved to Oaxaca five years ago.

2. What was your favorite live musical performance ever?

Probably Peter Gabriel in 1982 at the Capitol Theater in Passaic, NJ. He was touring in support of his fourth solo album, and it was absolutely magnificent.

<lj-embed id="1179" />

3. Do you play an instrument, or sing?

Played viola as a kid. Probably still would, if someone had suggested I play along with Deep Purple and Black Sabbath while smoking weed.

<lj-embed id="1180" />

4. Have you ever performed music onstage?

Yes, with a full youth symphony orchestra, guest soloist Isaac Stern. They pressed vinyl of the performance.

5. Who is your favorite musician?

There are so many. I'm old. Deep Purple was my first. Peter Gabriel had an outsized influence on my soundtrack for most of my life. My favorite songwriters are Joni Mitchell and Bruce Cockburn. My current fave is Panteon Rococo. I am all about the Spanish language, and I am discovering so much new sound.
