A hackathon is an event where participants spend the weekend building a project with a team to win prizes. It is also an opportunity to network with other developers, mentors, and sponsors.
HuskyHack is George Brown Polytechnic's largest student-run 24-hour hackathon, bringing 150 students to the heart of Toronto. While many hackathons focus purely on competition, HuskyHack emphasizes creating a collaborative environment where you can share ideas, find projects you are passionate about, and build strong teams.
HuskyHack is happening May 1st-2nd, 2026, at the George Brown Polytechnic Waterfront campus.
HuskyHack is completely free to attend. We provide food, coffee, and a workspace to keep your ideas flowing.
Any high school student, undergraduate, or recent university/college graduate.
Yes, you can work on a project alone, although we highly encourage you to form or join a team to get the most out of the experience.
No problem! We will host a Team Formation session at the start of the event to help you find teammates.
Teams can have up to 5 members.
You will gain hands-on experience, learn new skills, network with industry professionals, get free swag, and have a chance to win prizes.
Yes, specific prizes will be announced closer to the event.
A laptop (plus any hardware required for your project), a charger, comfortable clothes, a valid student ID, and your collaborative spirit for the 24 hours.
Yes, all meals, snacks, and drinks (including coffee) will be provided.
The main theme will be announced at the start of the competition. There will also be specific categories and challenges with dedicated prizes.
You are free to build anything that fits the theme. Whether it is a mobile app, web app, robot, IoT device, or game, the choice is yours as long as it demonstrates a working proof of concept supporting your idea.
