The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at IISER Bhopal is a multidisciplinary department conceptualised with a vision of foregrounding the interfaces between science, society and culture, and of initiating a dialogue between the natural sciences, the social sciences, and the humanities. The department currently offers MA in Liberal Arts and PhD in Cognitive Science, Literature, Philosophy, Social Work, Sociology and Social Anthropology.
Ms. Shobha Elizabeth John (Roll No. 2110803), a PhD student in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, has been awarded a travel bursary by GAPS (Association for Anglophone Postcolonial Studies) to present a paper at their annual conference at Osnabrück University, Germany, from 14-16 May 2026.
Mr. Dipak Kr Chakraborty, a PhD student from the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences has been selected as an Assistant Editor of Backchannels, the multi-directional online publication section of the prestigious Society for Social Studies of Science (4S), the international association of scholars in Science and Technology Studies (STS). https://4sonline.org/backchannels_editorial_team.php
Mr. Dipak Kr Chakraborty (Roll No. 2210803), a PHD student, has been selected to present a paper at the prestigious and competitive 12th European Society for the History of Science/History of Science Society Joint Meeting to be held in Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom, from 12-16, July 2026.
Ms. Harshita Shukla (Roll No. 2420803), a PHD student has been selected for the '2nd Winter Graduate School' on 'Institutions, Adaptation, and Inequalities' organised by the Indian Institute of Science, Education, and Research (IISER) Mohali, scheduled from 19th- 20th March, 2026.
