This base is from Order of the Phoenix from my personal caps.

1) Duplicate base layer>set top layer to sceen

2)Copy merge and paste a new layer on top and sharpen once

3)Create a new raster layer> flood fill with a dark blue>set to exclusion at 84%

4) Create a new raster layer> flood fill with a light blue> set to burn at 82%

5)Go to Layers>New Adjustment Layer> Color balance

Midtones: 17,0,-29
Shadows: 11,0,-15
Highlights: 11,0,-18

6) Go to Layers>New Adjustment Layer>Channel Mixer

Reds: adjust greens to 8
Blues: adjust blues to 94
Leave other settings alone

And you are done!

Tutorial #3: Harry coloring tutorial

Okay so here is my third icon tutorial that I promised a couple of weeks ago!

- Its made in Photoshop Elements 5.0
- Really easy to do
- Can be made in almost any graphic progam

Rules
- You can copy my original icon, just credit me (I would prefer you to make it your own though!)
- Don't follow steps exactly, make it how you like it
- And COMMENT!!!

Step 1:
I took this that I found off of Dan Radcliffe's website and then cropped it how I liked.

Step 2:
Duplicate the base picture and set the blending mode to Screen.

Step 3:
Next add a blank layer and fill it with #dcbc68 and set it to Color Dodge.

Step 4:
Now duplicate the base layer three times and put them at the top. Then set the bottom one to Luminosity at 25%, the next one to Saturation, and the last to Linear Light at 75%.

Step 5:
Lastly, fill a new layer with #0d0d57 and set it to Color Dodge.

But that isn't it, you can also take away certain layers and get different effects!

For this effect you just delete the Screen layer.

For this one, delete the Screen layer & set the dark blue layer to Saturation.

This one you just delete the dark blue layer.

And the last one you just have to delete the tan layer!</div>

that I found from Emma Watson's website then cropped it to how I liked it.

Step 2:
In this icon I wanted to make Emma's eyes and lips stand out so I used the sharpen tool over her eyes and lips.

Step 3:
Duplicate that layer and set it to Screen. Then duplicate that layer and set it to Hard Light.

Make a new layer and fill it with #c75ee9 at Saturation.

Step 5:
Make another new layer and fill it with #090295 at Soft Light.

Step 6:
Duplicate your base picture, drag it to the top, and set it to Luminosity at 50%.

Step 7:
Duplicate your base picture again and put it to the top. Put the blending mode to Hue at 50%. Then erase the eye out of all of the layers except for the first two layers. (steps 1 & 2)

And here is what it looks like . . .

Now you can add text, textures, or whatever you want too!

Tutorial #1: Gryffindor Trio Screencap

9 steps, good for beginners, pretty cool!

It doesn't look all that good, but I used a bunch of different techniques!

Step 1: Open a screencap or picture of the trio or whatever you like. Change the lighting, color, sharpen & blur, etc. Change whatever you want to make it look better!

Here is the screencap I will be using. (Thanks so much to

homeofthenuttyfor all the great screencaps.)

Step 2: Now, use the Polygonal Lasso Tool to outline the Gryffindor ties and stripes on their shirts. Right click on it and select layer via copy. Then once you are done copying all the ties and stripes, merge each one down. But don’t merge with the original picture.

This is how the copied ties and stripes should look. Don’t mess with the original picture, this is just to show you how it should look!

Step 3: I really want to make the Gryffindor colors stand out so I increased the saturation (my setting was +45). Do it only on the copied ties and stripes!

You should have something like this.

Step 4: Now, to make it even more interesting, I desaturated the base picture. But I didn’t like the complete black & white, so I undid the desaturation part and instead only desaturated it a little bit (mine was -65).

OPTIONAL: I went back to the copied ties and stripes then duplicated that layer. I set it to hard light at 50%. It gives it more solid, darker color. So it looks like this.

Step 5: Finally, merge all the layers together.

Step 6: Now, go to Filter - Distort - Diffuse Glow. I set the Graininess to 0, the Clear Amount to 15, and the Glow Amount to 10. Make sure your background color is set to white! I didn’t like how Harry and Hermione’s faces were glowing and Ron’s wasn’t, so I used the Burn Tool over Harry and Hermione’s faces. Try to match it best with how Ron’s face looks!

This is how it should look.

Step 7: I still didn’t like how it looked so I duplicated the base picture and set it to multiply at 50%. And then I desaturated it completely and also increased the lightness to 30. But Harry and Hermione’s eyes were darker than I wanted so I used the Dodge Tool on just their eyes. Merge those 2 base pictures together.

This is where you could stop.

OPTIONAL: I also added a motioned blurred background. First, you duplicate the base picture twice. Then, go to Filter - Blur - Motion Blur and set the distance to 35 and leave the angle at 0. Then with the second duplicate picture you take the Background Eraser Tool and erase the background that you want zoomed. Then merge the layers and you should have something that looks like this!

Step 8: To add a little something more to this picture, I took this texture

and put it to color dodge. Then I erased whatever was covering their faces.

Now you have this!

Step 9: The last thing I did was add this texture

dearestand put the blending mode to multiply!

Here's my first tutorial. I made it using Photoshop Elements but I think you can use it on any Photoshop program. It's relatively easy and made for beginners. Enjoy!

Today we'll be going from this to this in just five short steps.

This icon really shouldn't take you all that much time to finish, it's a very easy tutorial for beginners who are new to icon making.

Step 1:

Pick your base. I'll be using this lovely pic of Rita Skeeter. Sharpen the base as much as you like (I personally used 70)

Step 2:

Duplicate your base and set that layer to Screen, Opacity 100. That lightens things up a bit.

Step 3:

Now we're going to change up the color in the picture. Go to Layer-->New Fill Layer-->Solid Color and fill with #add8f6. Or you can just copy and paste this

over your icon.

Now that it's filled with blue, set that layer to soft light, Opacity 100. Now it should look like this:

Step 4:

Take this texture by colorfilter and paste it over your image

Now, we still want to see Rita, so set this layer to lighten, opacity 60. That looks much better, does it?

Step 5:

Feel free to decorate your image however you like. In my icon, I added the words "Me, Myself, and I" in Violation font, size 14. You can add brushes, text, or experiment with other textures and layers to get the perfect effect you want. Be creative!

That's all there is to it! It wasn't that scary, right? Feel free to use the image, but please credit Lissy if you do use. Also feel free to post the icons you make using this technique. I really want to see what you come up with!

Note: I think it's not translatable. I used Adobe Photoshop CS2. Could possibly be done with the older versions.

1. Prepare your image. Crop, sharpen, soften, etc...
2. Duplicate your image.
3. Desaturate the second layer.
4. Set the desaturated image to Overlay 100%.
5. Duplicate the desaturated layer and set that to Soft Light 100%.
6. Go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Color Balance. Set your settings to the following :

Note About Step #6: If you're not satisfied with the result, you can play with the settings.

Optional : If the image is a bit dark, go to Layers > New Adjustment Layer > Brightness and Contrast and play with the settings until you get the result you want.

7. Add brushes, text or whatever you want. You can use the blur tool to soften the skin and the sharpen tool to sharpen the lips and the eyes.
8. Flatten your image.
