LANGUISHMENT: Renji's house

In the Languishment game verse, Renji's house has been modeled after the Kuchiki manor that is residence to his captain Kuchiki Byakuya as well as Rukia, his childhood best friend. For several reasons, including Renji's desire to win Byakuya's approval, spend time with Rukia and generally find somewhere to belong, I've decided that Renji's dream home will reflect the manor even if those desires within him can become almost subconscious at times.

He's not one to be greedy, or strive to obtain more than he needs, so his home is a vastly scaled down version of what I can imagine parts of the manor would look like.

There are four rooms separated by 障子 (Shouji; paper sliding doors) and 襖 (fusuma; sliding screen doors) and are divided up by tatami mats which is seen in the diagram above~ The red lines note the divide in rooms. The broken red line represents a screen that can not be opened. For reference, this is the house grid with the tatami markings. The black lines surrounding the house represent the 縁側 (engawa)

The house is pretty empty, as I mentioned Renji doesn't desire many physical possessions but there are necessities and things that the house came with. Not shown are random things he leaves laying around, his zanpakutou and things he's received from others. The coloured dots are a legend that is explained below the picture.

The 襖 (fusuma) are decorated with a sakura motif that looks like this

NO COLOUR O Porch that sticks out from the house, but still protected by the roof. Past this porch is the 縁側 (engawa)

O 縁側 (engawa;) This is somewhat of a traditional 'in between' area. Shoes come off here before entering and stepping on tatami. Alternate view of 縁側 from inside the house.

O Mini fridge where Renji keeps his food. He doesn't need a large fridge because he eats too much too quickly to need anymore space.

O 座布団 (Zabuton; traditional flat pillows) are stacked up to be used for sitting on the floor, or just as pillows.

O A camilia flower sitting on the bedside table.

O A lava lamp sitting on the bedside table.

O A futon. Renji's bed will not look unsimilar to this one, but his blanket is tie-dyed.

ONO PICTURE. This is where Renji keeps his clothes. Folded, more or less (not) in a pile on the floor. Amongst this pile is a pink floral yukata, jeans, t-shirts (plain white, tie-dye, random patterns that he thinks are badass, extra leis from the bar, extra bandanas, socks, and his underwear which are a mix of boxers and fundoshi.

O Garbage can

O 火燵 (Kotatsu) Traditional Japanese table that has a blanket for a covering. It gets toasty under there, as they are heated underneath. You can also sleep under there, which is pretty awesome.

O 座椅子 (Zaisu; Japanese style flat chairs) These are for sitting on, yep.

O Low to the ground table. 座椅子 are also featured in this picture.

O Traditional bath is located in it's own seperate room from the toilet. There is a bucket, some salts and soap stored on the tub's edges.

O NO PICTURE. The toilet. I'm more or less unaware of how old Japanese toilets were besides either a hole in the ground or an outhouse. Those right on the ground open Japanese toilets make me very unsure, so I'll leave what this toilet is like up to your discretion. Japanese people don't talk about their toilets apparently.

Then it's flipped again, back to a face! But, only half of a face. Things are still a bit zoomed in.]

Hey-- who am I talkin' to? [Camera is adjusting again to give the audience a better look at who 's playing camera man, and those who know Renji may recognize his cheek, eye or the tattoos around it.]

This is Abarai Renji, vice captain a'the sixth division. Think I'm gonna need someone ta fill me in on where I am and how I got here. [Don't get motion sickness now, the camera is flipping right around again to focus on slowpokes face, and then back up to Renji's. You now have a view of his nose and his mouth.]

That thing's been followin' me around, [It's pokeball is down on the ground beside it, he must have dropped it, and you can't see it but he looks slightly bothered by Slowpoke just staring up at him.] an' I can't find my zanpakutou. [And there's the true nerves showing themselves in the tone of his voice. But, keeping face, he's not looking worried. Not that you can really see.]

Personality:

Brash, hot headed, rowdy and occasionally as loud as he appears at first glance, Renji still manages to be caring and quite loyal. If you mean enough to him you may just catch him being a bit of a softie.

Even as a kid, Renji was a bit of a rebel. Growing up on the streets, he had to do what he had to do. He wanted the attention, to be the leader, he wanted all eyes on him. He wanted to be the star and impress all of the friends he kept around him.

Although now, he has grown out of some of the 'all eyes need to be on me' attitude he had as a youngster, he can still occasionally seem cocky and over-confident, and the tattoo's that run down his body still hold an undertone of 'look at me'. He isn't incapable of being serious, and often is when there is reason to be. But otherwise he's quite light hearted, playfully competitive and laid back.The bonds he forms are very important to him and he isn't one to throw away friendship due to a small argument or difference in opinion, though he may argue, yell and wrestle to reach an agreement.

Even though he was jealous that Rukia held the same ability he did while he was a child, he still managed to put it past him and become really good friends with her. He wants the best for his friends, even if it means that they get taken from him. He'll fight to protect them until he collapses. If something/someone he truly cares about is in danger, he can act quite spontaneously and without much thought at all. It's only when a matter is generally unimportant that he will stop and think for a few moments before he charges into action.

Without his strong determined will he wouldn't have been able to achieve all that he has. Constantly striving to meet his goals, Renji will do everything it takes to satisfy himself and the needs of those he cares about. The moment he felt Kuchiki Byakuya's power he was determined to surpass him, and that drive alone fuelled a good majority of his immense progress as a shinigami. When he wants something, he develops a passion for it. To gain power, to protect, to be his own unique version of a hero. However with passion comes emotion, and he is easily blinded by it in the more intense moments.

For the more analytically developed, Renji is often an easy man to read. There's no need to hide what he feels. If he's upset he's going to let you know about it, and if he's angry off well you're definitely gonna know about it. He isn't about to let anyone push him around.

Even though he can be a little silly at times, he's not about to let anyone mess around with him or his friends if he has any say in the matter. he's a vice captain and will forever wear that title with pride.

Powers/Abilities:

As a seated member in the gotei 13 squads, and a vice captain at that, Renji demonstrates a very impressive range of developed abilities.
First and foremost he has obtained both shikai and bankai with his zanpakuto Zabimaru and has managed to hone his swordsmanship well enough to skillfully control a sword that, in release, acts like a very long whip.
On top of that control, he is very skilled with a standard katana and is able to rely on brute strength in battle if necessary.
His Kido skills (demon arts) are below average for someone of his rank. He can effectively preform a few spells, however they usually blow up in his face.
He's highly skilled in shunpo (fast step) and can keep up with a good majority of the captains.

He sat up with a start, hands immediately coming up to pat down his chest and body. What the hell was this? He'd blacked out and now- He took a deep breath, squinting his eyes and letting the blood rush back into his head.

Artificial lights and clashing warm patterns of colour. Bed, door, table, paper, lamp.

This wasn't the battlefeild that was for damn sure. He looked around the room, still absent mindedly running one set of bandaged knuckles lazily along the identical fabric of bandages still bound around his chest, surveying the surroundings a little more closely.

His eyes slipped closed, and the hand against his chest clenched into a fist. He couldn't remember what had happened. Someone had to have brought him here? Had he passed out and been taken back to one of the other's houses? Orihime? No, he'd seen her house before. Chad or Ishida, maybe.

What had happened to Ichigo? His brows creased. That idiot been the one who'd passed out hadn't he? They'd all been rushing to help him and that seemed to be where his memory stopped. The scowl quickly developing on his face became directed at the tacky wallpaper opposite from where he was sitting on the bed. This didn't look like someone's house. Everything was too neat, no this was like a hostel kinda thing.

Groaning, he stretched a bit, quickly noting that any lingering injuries he may have sustained were now feeling all healed up. Did that mean a lot of time had passed? No way someone had healed him and then just dumped him in here. There were too many possibilities, he didn't have time to sit and think about shit like that.

He forced himself up and just stood there for a second, he felt light. That was when he realized he didn't have Zabimaru on him. And that was when he started to freak out just a little bit. Who the hell had managed to take that from him? He moved to the window and pulled back the blinds only to see the dark wasteland. Was he back in a deeper part of Hueco Mundo? But that didn't make any sense either.His hand hovered uncomfortably near his hip, feeling almost naked without the hilt of a sword to clutch. It was more than frustrating to not know what happened.

Was Ichigo and the rest of them here? Rukia?

“Tch”

The tip of his foot collided with the small bedside table as he attempted to make up for not having a blade. But that did nothing but cause him to stub his toe, and cause the small pamphlet that had been sitting on it to slide off onto the bed as the lamp wobbled and threatened to tip over.

Within moments he wished he'd never read that pamphlet. What kind of stupid game was this? Whoever had brought him here was an idiot to think he was gonna fall for something like that. He pocketed the chip and the phone, he wasn't about to sit around here and wonder who the hell was trying to pull one over on him.

He made his way straight to the door and upon opening it his earlier suspicions were proved correct. It was a hotel, and a large one at that. Hallway after hallway, elevators and stairs that just led to even more hallways. The last thing he wanted was another endless hallway. Once he found his way down into some kinda main area someone was gonna give him some answers.
