Dear Yuletide Author:

First and foremost: thank you so much for this gorgeous thing you’re going to be writing little old me (and I am so sorry this is late in going up—work has been brutal)! I so appreciate it, you have no idea. I hope it’s fun for you, and I hope you’re not stressed at all by it, because truly: anything you make will be great, and I’ll be thrilled and flattered and humbled by your generosity. I’m also incredibly flexible in terms of what I want/like—I’ve included some ideas and indications, but truly, the main point is: I never, ever want to stand in the way of someone’s muse. If you get pulled in a totally different direction, and you’re feeling the momentum? RUN with it. I find the most awesome thing in writing and reading alike to be the spark of passion, of enthusiasm in the words that you can see when the author’s totally into it. I am hoping you’ll find something here that sparks one of those moments for you in the writing process.

So, to that end: some general musings about things I prefer—I've grown to like happy endings, but I'm most attached to emotional satisfaction. I adore the cliche of near-death experiences spurring the realization of deep emotional attachments. I think convincing and moving portrayals of non-sexual intimacy (within or outside of sexual situations) are fantastic. Cerebral styles and plots are totally up my alley. I like poeticism. I'm flexible about how the characters are portrayed: I like the canon, and I like it when people take the canon and run in their own directions with it, so long as the development and/or the justification is clear enough to cogitate. I love the imagination of plots that lean toward magical realism. I tend to prefer romance in my pairings, but again: your mileage. As for the porn, once more—it's lovely but not necessary if you're not feeling it (which is also to say that, if you are, I'm totally down), and as for specifics, I'm fairly open-minded. That said, unless your heart's set on it (because who am I to argue if you're committed to an idea?), I'd prefer not to have: non/dub-con, mpreg, omega-verse, super-cracky crack, scat/watersports, spanking, genderswap, characters as anthropomorphic manifestations of animals, non-consensual humiliation/non-consensual BDSM (I prefer to see everyone enjoying themselves and the fulfillment of their kinks accordingly, basically). On the flip side of that, though: I am a fairly open-shipping person, so if you like a ship, or if something speaks to you, run with it! If there is no ship, I will love it just as much (gen is wonderful). Basically: if you want to go romance, or sexual content with or without romance, by all means: do; if you don’t, that will receive just as much love :D

Guardians of the Galaxy (Movies)
I am absolutely in love with the team dynamics among these brilliant, screwed-up misfits. There is not a thing I can think of that is attached in any way to this movie that I’d be even slightly disappointed in receiving. Character studies? Shipping? Team-as-family? Fleshing out the baddies? Pre-movie? Post-movie? Mixtapes? Something good, something bad, bit of both? Run with it. I am serious. I LOVE this movie. All of the things are good about writing for this one.

The Blacklist
Like countless people, the gravity that swirls between Reddington and Lizzie is mesmerizing, however you want to explain or contextualize it—dark, twisted, possessive, oddly endearing, there is so much there to work with, and I’d love to see any and all takes on it. That said: the entire cast is brilliant, and the characters are so well-developed, have so much potential—team dynamics here, as well, are totally up my alley. Character backstories, or what these people do when they’re not at the office/in the field—those are great. Dembe has so many layers we haven’t seen yet, so much depth and promise as a character—if you feel inclined, I’d love to see even just one of those layers, just one veins of that promise. Ressler is complex and flawed and human, and I love the dynamic he has with Elizabeth—something strong and honest that could turn into something stable for both, in terms of friendship. Or otherwise, if you want to go in that direction—as I said, I am a polyshipper in most things, and this is no exception.

True Detective
The atmosphere of this show was something special. Playing with the rugged, repressed, bleak psychology of this show would be fantastical—I enjoy explorations of the complex relationship (however you interpret that word) between Rust and Marty, but also character studies, explorations of both/either character beyond their connection to one another, missing scenes, imaginings after the end of the Form and Void. Philosophical ramblings in the style of dear Rust are also most welcome ;)

The Eagle | The Eagle of the Ninth (2011)
I’m not going to pretend I don’t dig Esca/Marcus. Anything and everything leaning in that direction? I’m absolutely thrilled by.

Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes
This series gave us so many intriguing looks at these characters, particularly in considering where so many of them have gone/are going in the MCU at present. I’d love for some of the incarnations of the characters here, who aren’t yet on-screen in the MCU, to get some love—be it speculative for their filmic futures, or more strictly confined to EMH. Involve anyone and everyone you want. I’ve been a rabid Marvel fan too long to every encourage leaving anyone out that you want to include :)

Kings (TV)
I love metaphor, particularly when it plays on history and religio-mythical themes, not to mention my enjoyment of the creative retelling of stories in general—in Kings, I feel like there real potential that the show sometimes fulfilled, and sometimes didn’t. Anything that looks at the characters, the existing symbolism, the relationships, the character and/or political dynamics, the future beyond the show’s cancellation, what have you: free reign, with this one. Well, with all of them, but—you get what I mean.

Once more: thank you so much for your time and talent. I wish you the most wonderful end-of-the-year, and joyous times of whatever-celebrations-you-enjoy :)

<3 hitlikehammers

To You, Dear Yuletide Author

Dear Yuletide Author, I feel dreadfully that this letter is so horrifically belated. Life—or perhaps more specifically, my schedule—got the best of me for longer than I was prepared for, and alas, it is not until just now, with a few minutes to spare while some files load, that I can pop in and write you a bit of a note. You may no longer need it, but mostly, if you see this, I just want you to know that I think you're stellar. I love to write for people, but the idea of someone writing for me—even though, well, exchanges are BUILT that way, duh—is still a bit mind-boggling. So the fact that you signed up to write for someone, and then got me, and are willing to try to write something with my interests even vaguely in mind? You're fabulous. Thank you in advance.

I’ve grown to like happy endings, but I’m most attached to emotional satisfaction: if I can invest in the comings and goings and feel with the characters and the plot as it unfolds, I’m usually pretty satisfied. I adore the utter cliche of near-death experiences spurring the realization of deep emotional attachments. I think convincing and moving portrayals of non-sexual intimacy (within or outside of sexual situations) are fantastic. Reunions are lovely, when they’re earned. Meeting-the-family never fails to beget enjoyment, I find. Cerebral styles and plots are totally up my alley. I like poeticism, and the poeticization of just about anything. I’m flexible about how the characters are portrayed: I like the canon, and I like it when people take the canon and run in their own directions with it, so long as the development and/or the justification is clear enough to cogitate. I love the flexibility and imagination that’s unleashed with plots that lean toward magical realism. I prefer romance in my pairings. I don’t mind porn, in fact, I quite enjoy it, but I’d prefer more plot/character development/etc., if I have a choice. I’m not generally “into” specific kinks, usually, but as with my writing, so with yours: if it’s interesting, and it fits the characterization put forth and it makes for complexities and development and whatnot, I’m fairly open-minded. That said, unless your heart’s set on it (because who am I to argue if you’re committed to an idea?), I’d prefer not to have: non/dub-con, mpreg, omega-verse, super-cracky crack, scat/watersports, spanking, genderswap, characters as anthropomorphic manifestations of animals, non-consensual humiliation/non-consensual BDSM (I prefer to see everyone enjoying themselves and the fulfillment of their kinks accordingly, basically).

Mostly, even after all that: I believe that if a author’s enjoying the writing, the readers more likely to enjoy the reading. Have fun.

Fandom-specific, here are just a few ramblings regarding things I didn't put in my initial requests:

Elementary

I love this show. I think it does something unique and gorgeous and new with the established canon, and the vulnerability of Sherlock/the interesting development of Joan/the new spin on Moriarty all procide really productive, entertaining, enlightening, and real foils for the other recent/current iterations of the ACD characters. I love Sherlock/Joan, but I also love friendship, character study, family dynamics: really, this fandom is still young, and there are so many possibilities, so anything you might want to try in it would be wonderful in my book :)

Lewis (TV)

I have a soft spot for Hathaway. Really and truly. With or without Lewis. If you feel similarly? Have at it.

V (2009)

I loved this show, and I was disappointed when it was cancelled. I particularly felt that it would be interesting to see Joshua developed, and also to see what might come of the Chad/Anna dynamic. Dark and twisty character introspection. I like that, here.

The Borgias: The Original Crime Family (2011)

Pairings, threesomes, moresomes, character studies, PWP: go wild, here. I feel like the lushness of this series lends itself to making just about any sort of snippet one could write.

Breaking Bad

This show, in my opinion, is like distilled intensity and heartbreak and dark humor and it is magnificent for all of that. I have a particular love of Gus. And of course, of Jesse—seeing him post-series would be lovely.

The Eagle | The Eagle of the Ninth (2011)

Anything you might be inspired toward here, really. I'm totally not picky.

Again, dear Yultide Author: whatever you'd like to write, I am sure that I'll love it. Thank you again for being awesome <3

That, well: that is a little new.

Minor Trailer Spoilers for Star Trek Into Darkness.
Disclaimer: I own nothing but the plot.
Author's Notes: So, with Benedict Cumberbatch playing our villain in the new Trek, and then this trailer having the end-bit that it does... how was this not going to happen?

Penumbra: Chapter One

It's sleight of hand to save lives and keep hearts unbroken. And it was all John's idea.

And that changes everything.
Spoilers for 2.03 — The Reichenbach Fall.
Disclaimer: I own nothing but the plot.
