- CHARACTER INFORMATION
NAME: Satoshi Fujio
CODENAME: Reki
SERIES/SOURCE: .hack//Legend of the Twilight
AGE: 21
GENDER: male
OCCUPATION: systems administration assistant and record keeping (attendance, class enrollment, meeting schedules, etc.)

He'd also make a good history sub. or a do-it-all assistant/sub./aide/secretary/gofer to boss around.

BACKGROUND:

Satoshi Fujio lived an average life in Kamakura, Japan for the most part. With high marks, he graduated high school and entered a college in Kyoto. While he studied, he worked at bookstore, trying to make ends meet between rent and tuition. He did a good job keeping the store in working order. Fujio especially loved history and would spend countless hours working on history reports for his classes. He'd even forget to eat and sleep while doing so. On occasion, Fujio begun to read a few technology materials while, Fujio later graduated with a degree in history, started searching for a job... and couldn't find one.

Fujio then joined CyberConnect Corporation (CC Corp.) in Tokyo, figuring that a corporation such as this would be okay and cover his living costs. CC Corp.'s main product was "The World," a fantasy MMORPG that used special headgear to immerse the player into the game world. It was popular in a few areas of the real world but never reached world wide success due to the cost of the equipment and monthly fees. (Without the headgear, the game paled to others in design, and the cost of the many servers and employees needed to support the game kept the monthly fees high.)

The first time Fujio put on the headgear, he created a Wavemaster named Reki to be his avatar in the game. Even if Fujio never intended to level up or play the game, a lot of coding would be done while logged in. Reki was similar in appearance. The only differences were hair and eye color and the triangle mark under his character's left eye. Then he introduced himself as the new assistant to a system administrator with the character named "Balmung." After their first meeting, Fujio almost quit the company.

Balmung was quite the boss, enthusiastic, demanding, aggravating... Many times he would make Reki do most of the coding for his crazy events and then participate in them himself, leaving Reki the often embarrassing job of hosting said events. However, Reki eventually became used to Balmung's demands and even admired him on another level. Balmung truly loved his job, the player base, and the World. Reki started to believe in Balmung and would support him as his operator in any way he could. Although, that didn't stop Reki from complaining whenever Balmung dumped mountains of work on him or ran off.

Then something peculiar happened in the game. No one knew how those unique character models were released or how that white dressed girl entered the World, but they couldn't be ignored. That little girl had one wish: she wanted to return to her mother, Aura.

Virtual reality and mutants don't mix as far as CC Corp. was concerned. An incident happened four years ago, one that Balmung had been personally involved in along with many others. Players of the game fell unconscious, sometimes for months. With clever reporting, CC Corp blamed it on a mutant named "Aura," who was no longer a threat. They kept the whole thing from becoming a huge panicky scandal. CC Corp. didn't actually know if Aura was a mutant inhabiting the game's code, but it didn't matter. This time, CC Corp. sent a debugging team to go after the unique characters and the girl. CC Corp. was determined to delete the rogue coding from their systems and prevent such an incident from ever happening again.

Balmung wouldn't have it and fought against CC Corp. The company gave him a warning not to further involve himself or face the removal of his administrative powers, his job, and possibly deletion of his character. Then the two players and girl escaped imprisonment and ran with the debugging team on their heels. In order to allow Balmung to aid three, Reki started to delete all logs of Balmung, masking his movements in the game, and took over all of Balmung's responsibilities. If all went to plan, CC Corp wouldn't know of Balmung's continued involvement. Being in the game, made the coding real time, and there was no chance for trial and error. If Reki deleted the wrong files and logs or not fast enough, he and Balmung would be found out. If a security program discovered him, he and Balmung would be found out. If he didn't work on new event coding, he and Balmung would be found out. All of this had to be typed, searched for, clicked, etc. It was a lot of work, and Fujio found himself wishing he could code faster and more precise.

And after blacking out for a few minutes, suddenly Reki could. Reki could think of the coding, the script, the program he wanted, and it would instantly be ready and executable for him.

When the danger had past, Balmung went to thank Fujio in the real world and found that Fujio looked a lot like Reki! CC Corp. reviewed the data from that time and discovered a large chunk had gone missing while and abundance of activity was found in the online management center, where Reki had been. It was more that humanly possible in that period of time. CC Corp. didn't appreciate the manipulation of data, and thanks to his change and the records, they knew Fujio—now Reki in appearance—was a mutant as well. The character Reki was immediately deleted, and Fujio was fired for being a mutant along with data manipulation. (A mutant in the company after what Aura had caused? It was simply not allowed.)

Fujio—now assuming the name Reki as more than just his late avatar's name—found himself with the label of mutant and depending solely on his savings in an expensive city. More importantly, his eyes were opened to what being a mutant in this world truly meant. He started researching Xavier Institute. The morning Sanctuary contacted him with plans to bring him to the US, Reki hesitated to reply until he received an email from Balmung brainstorming his next exciting event. After complaining, Reki found himself emailing his thoughts back to his former boss with a smile. Reki could get used to this.

PERSONALITY: Reki can be a polite, well mannered professional. When things are going well, he is relaxed, easy going, perhaps even bored. And when things take a turn, he reacts by being surprised or exasperated, maybe a little panicked. His time with Balmung has brought out his more critical, opinionated, even accusatory side, so he is not above mumbling his grievances and worries or questioning a superior's actions... and then going along with what was originally planned. Sticklers to rules when easing up would benefit more or those who shrug their responsibilities are likely to be yelled at and looked down upon by Reki. He not afraid to tell them they are out of line or overstepping their boundaries.

Occasionally, Reki reflects on his actions or why things happen as they do, wondering why he's grown accustomed to something when really he should've run a while ago. Part of it is guilt for spending so much time studying history and hoping it hadn't been a waste of time, effort, and money for him. Therefore, he looks up to people who hold on to their dreams and live them.

He is also very loyal to those he admires and those who are part of his responsibility. Reki is willing to sacrifice his time and well being (and his reputation) for them. He's not afraid of getting his hands dirty to do so, whether it's hacking into a system and manipulating records or grabbing someone by the collar to demand what happened. Reki's also shown a taste for eavesdropping if it's to protect his or another's interests. Deep down, he truly cares for those people even if he doesn't immediately show it; he may surprise another when he does show just how much he actually cares. Reki also admits to being a fool for following and supporting their less than ideal escapades.

Above all else, Reki is a hard worker who's able to put up with a lot. He may complain and say he wants to quit, but he'll get the job done to the fullest of his ability and takes great pride in his work... and then says he wants to quit when the next mountain of work is dumped on him.

APPEARANCE: Reki is a person of small stature, barely reaching 5 feet 4 inches (163 CM), and tends to look even smaller due to the baggy clothing he wears. The bagginess partially stems from his tendency to forget to sleep and eat when he's too focused on a task at hand or overworked. Similarly, his pale skin is from the fact that he spends too much time indoors, and computer screens don't give tans.
When it's time for work, he'll wear a simple white suit, complete with dark blue dress shirt and a yellow tie and his ID hung from his neck by a lanyard, but in more casual settings, Reki can be seen wearing red. All of his outfits are rather practical, and he'll wear sneakers even with his suit because with all the running around he does, he needs to be able to move.

And thanks to the sudden transformation his powers caused, Fujio's light brown hair and dark brown eyes turned to blond hair and bright blue eyes. He also gained a red triangle mark that runs from under his left eye and down his cheek matching that of his avatar Reki. His youthful appearance may also get him confused for a student. With him most of the time is a thick, dark blue leather bound history book with golden symbols on the cover. By no means is it an ordinary book.

POWERS: Reki is a technopath that is mostly restricted to electrical, digital, and programmable items. It enhances what coding skills he already had before discovering his powers. That ranges from creating cherry blossoms for a game event to hacking into security protected areas to delete files. His history book is essentially a laptop computer with interactive holographic abilities (think floating touch screens). He uses it a lot with his technopathy, and the book is blank and useless in anyone else's hands.

If one wanted to be specific, Fujio's actual mutation was reality warping. His desire and activation of his power resulted in his change in appearance, the creation of his computer-like book, and his technopathic abilities. In a sense, he overwrote himself with a technopath's "data" and lost most of his ability to warp reality besides use of his book. Oops. Well, what he doesn't know won't hurt him.

ANYTHING ELSE?:
This Reki is based on the manga version. The series is a case of the anime and manga diverging paths after a certain point, and Reki in the anime does some things differently than the manga to say the least.

Also, in the event of a Balmung or other canonmates, Reki's background is retconable. In the meantime, Balmung is in regular contact with Reki, keeping Reki from having lost everything. This won't interfere with his duties at the school. If Balmung needs something done that fast, he can do it himself.

Hello Students and Staff! How are you?

My name is Satoshi Fujio, but please feel free to call me Reki or Fujio. Starting today, I am now part of the network and record's staff here. Previously, I worked for CC Corp. as a system operator for the World for around two years. My mutation is technopathy, and I enjoy history.

I hope I can be of some service to you. Thank you.

[Reki bows and cuts the feed without reaching for the camera. This technopathy is handy at times.]

[Email: Subject: to Balmung | Sender: Reki]

I'm helping admin a network where people are convinced the webcams are sentient along with plenty of technopathic students. On top of that, you're sending me assignments for your events?! I don't care that you've managed to revive my character. I don't even work for you anymore!

Host an event yourself for once! (>_<)

With his suitcase in tow behind him, Reki dodged a half-awake guest on route to the motel. The air was blessedly silent as he entered the small lobby. "Hello," he said, the words feeling a little strange in his mouth despite hours of practice. "I'd like a room, please. My name is Satoshi Fujio."

The woman behind the desk looked up; her eyes glanced at the red triangle mark under his left eye before responding with a "Yes, of course. One moment." She typed the information into the computer to check him into a room. It was a task he could do in a matter of seconds now. Reki had been immensely relieved Sanctuary helped transport him from Tokyo to New York, bypassing all the security and testing for his kind. He didn't know how else he would have entered the country. What a time to discover his powers... "Here you go. Room 23," she said as she handed a tarnished key to him and glanced at the mark once more. "Complimentary breakfast starts at seven."

"Thank you." Reki gave a polite nod and took the stairs and to his room. Maybe he should invest in make-up to cover his character's mark. It would take a lot though, wouldn't it?

The room was just about as big as his first apartment he struggled to pay rent for while going to school. That was a depressing thought. "What have I gotten myself into?" Reki muttered as he fell face first, exhausted onto the bed. Reki had insisted that Sanctuary took him to a motel first, so he could get some sleep before meeting his new employer. Hopefully the rest of his things had already arrived at the Institute safely.

For now there were only two things on his mind: food and then sleep. He had bought a sweet roll from the vending machine outside; that would do for now. Despite being half sunk in the bed, the soft chime didn't escape Reki's ears. He knew that chime; it meant he had email, email from a certain person.

"What do you want now, Balmung?" Reki pushed himself off the bed and opened a laptop bag that contained his large book. Opening the book caused an icon to appear on the pages, and a few movements later a few screens hovered in the air around Reki, one with the e-mail's contents visible on them. Balmung need a few more trees for the Green Fields Appreciation Day event. With a sigh Reki replied with a "Do you know what time it is here? This is the last time I do this for you, okay? (-_-)"

Morning came, and a persistent beeping interrupted any calm there had been. The sun glared through half shut drapes causing Reki to wince from the sitting position he had fallen asleep in. "Shut up!" Reki yelled, and the alarm clock did. But, the damage was done Reki was already up. With another thought, the TV flickered to life and started telling him about the weather. "And now for the weather around the nation..." He picked out his suit and threw it onto the bed before heading to the shower.

He had to get ready for to meet his new employers, though no one could be tougher than Balmung.
