Certified Proofreader Overview

Proofreaders and editors plan, proofread, and modify material for publication in books, periodicals, publications, or websites. My primary role as a proofreader is to review written content to ensure that each piece is polished, error-free, and professional. Also, to review, identify and correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and syntax errors. While editors work with authors to develop compelling narratives, and ensure consistency in style and tone throughout the document, I make sure that the publication is also free of other errors. For example, if there is an extra space after a period, the “their” when it should be “they're,” and the compound adjective is missing a hyphen. Proofreading takes place when editing is finished because every document deserves careful scrutiny before publication.
