2004
Research into continuous blood pressure begins
Scientists at the Swiss Centre for Electronics and Microtechnology (CSEM) begin exploring whether blood pressure could be estimated continuously without an inflatable cuff.
2005-2017
Breakthrough in cuffless monitoring
Researchers test more than 30 approaches to non-invasive blood pressure measurement, ultimately identifying a promising method using optical sensors and pulse wave analysis. This research leads to the development of Optical Blood Pressure Monitoring (OBPM).
2011
Scientific foundation established
Academic research demonstrates that subtle pulse wave characteristics measured at the wrist can be used to estimate blood pressure. This work becomes the foundation for Hilo’s monitoring technology.
2018
Aktiia launches to bring the research to market
The company is founded to transform years of academic research into a wearable system capable of measuring blood pressure continuously in everyday life.

Clinical validation
Multiple clinical studies confirm the accuracy of the technology against accepted reference methods and ambulatory monitoring.
