Miriam Schechter, MD, was selected as a 2025 Recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence in Teaching. This award is in acknowledgment of Dr. Schechter's many years of extraordinary teaching of Einstein's physicians-in-the- making.

Montefiore Einstein Teams Rally to Prepare Families for the New School Year
The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore Einstein (CHAM), Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and Montefiore Medical Group communities came together in a show of support for Bronx families preparing for the new school year. The team filled over 300 backpacks with donated school supplies. In addition to the backpacks, more than 200 school supply kits were prepared and distributed during our initial distribution days.
Kathleen Asas, MD Elected as Member of Epic Pediatric Hospital Medicine Steering Board
Kathleen Asas, MD, was elected as a member of the Epic Pediatric Hospital Medicine Steering Board. In this role, Dr. Asas will help guide Epic's content, strategy and best practices for the Pediatric Hospital Medicine specialty, she will serve a two-year term from July 1, 2025-June 30, 2027.
Joanne Nazif, MD Discusses FDA Approval of RSV Vaccine
Joanne Nazif, MD, participated in a panel discussion with other experts following the recent U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval of a new Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) antibody vaccine, clesrovimab. Together with the previously approved RSV antibody vaccine nirsevimab and the maternal vaccine, there are now several options available to protect infants from severe RSV infection. Panel members discussed implications of the new approval for the upcoming RSV season.

Advancing pediatric healthcare through research
Annually, CHAM provides care for over 7,000 hospitalized infants, children and adolescents with complex conditions, including 1,100 in its pediatric critical care unit and around 1,000 critically ill newborns in neonatal intensive care units. Additionally, nearly 200,000 children are treated through pediatric ambulatory care, and 69,000 receive care in school-based health programs.
CHAM is recognized for groundbreaking research leading to new therapies and better outcomes. In 2025, CHAM received over $52 million in grants and contracts, with $21 million from the NIH, ranking it among the top 30 institutions for pediatric disease funding nationally.
