Long past due post!

Hi all.

Many apologies for being so MIA. Unfortunately, the news I have is sad. I haven't been able to get in touch with my co-mod for quite a while. I'm a bit worried about her, so if anyone can reassure me she's okay, I'd appreciate it.

With that said, I really do not have the resources, time, or knowledge to run this bang any longer. Because of that unless someone wants to take over the reins (which I'd love), this is the end of Het Big Bang. If anyone is interested, please message me. I'm happy to remain available for anything you might need or have questions on if so.

I do want to thank everyone who has been involved with this Bang, past and present. I've loved this beautiful challenge and its celebration of het couples and am so happy with many of the things I've been able to write and art I've received and the beautiful fic I've read from y'all. Keep it all up!

Hi everyone!

I just wanted to say thank you for your patience as we wound down from the last round. We so enjoyed being able to do that for you.

With that being said, we're going to have to skip this next round. I hope we'll be back up and running for next time, but RL is just not giving us another option right now.

We will miss you and will definitely keep you updated on anything else.

In the meantime, keep writing and sharing your awesome words.

Hello everyone! The official posting period is now over and the Amnesty Period has begun! If you have missed your scheduled posting date, or already requested to post during Amnesty, now is the time to post! You are allowed to post on any day, from now until December 3rd.

We will be extending the Amnesty Period through December 3rd, to give a full 2 weeks of Amnesty!

If, for any reason, you cannot post, or cannot finish posting, during the Amnesty Period, please reach out to us ASAP, so we can discuss next steps. If you are an author (both 5k Little Bang and 10k Big Bang) that was paired through the claiming process, we're past the no consequences point and dropping out could result in a ban. However, if something major in your life happens (sickness, injury, accident, etc.) please just let us know and there will be no consequences for dropping out. Anyone that doesn't contact us will be banned, as we won't know about a situation unless we're told.

If you are a Solo Author, there are no consequences for dropping out.

If you are an author that has chosen to do chaptered posting, and you do not have your entire work posted by December 3rd, there can be consequences for not finishing, if you were paired with a fanworker. The idea of a Bang is to have a completed work posted!

If you are a Solo Author that chose to do chaptered posting and you do not have your entire work posted by December 3rd, we will remove your work from the HetBang Ao3 Collection, but there will be no other consequences for not finishing.

A note on beta-reading: You can choose the level of beta-reading you want, from hardcore story critiquing, to just a second pair of eyes for catching spelling and grammar errors. If you do not want to have your story heavily beta-read, this is fine! But please do get a second person to read through and help catch the spelling and grammar errors.

Fanworkers,
An Archive of Our Own account is required for fanworkers that plan to post their fanwork separately from their author’s story. Fanworkers are not required to post their work separately, if they do not want to, meaning they can have their work embedded in the author’s story and that will fulfill their posting requirement.

If you do not already have an Ao3 account, please get in queue ASAP: Archive of Our Own Invite Requests If your fanwork would be difficult to post to Ao3, such as a vid, playlist, or gifset, please contact us ASAP, we can help you post or discuss alternatives. This is the fifth and final check-in for HetBang 2022! This is a mandatory check-in, for both authors and fanworkers! If you do not check-in, you will be considered dropped from HetBang 2022, and there could be consequences if you were paired with an author (both 5k Little Bang and 10k Big Bang) or fanworker through the claiming process! (See below for required information) Mods will check the timestamps on comments and emails to keep things fair, as this is first come, first served. Traditional/Tandem groups, discuss which days will work best for your group. Only one member from your author/fanworker group needs to select a date. Please don't have all members comment with the same story/dates, it’ll be very confusing for mods! Discuss with your group (unless you are working Solo) and decide on dates together and who will be claiming your posting dates.

When you comment, please list three dates that you, and/or your group, would be able to post and include the following information. If any of the following information is not included, you will be asked to repost your comment with the missing info added in, and your dates will not be held for you!

General Posting Information

Works must not be posted before October 16th. This includes authors that choose to do chaptered posting. Chaptered Posting Guidelines. Works can be drafted before October 16th, so long as they are not posted. Please also note that Ao3 automatically deletes drafts after 30 days.

Chaptered Posting Guidelines

Starting this year, chaptered posting is allowed. Authors can start posting their works on October 16th, and they have until their chosen posting date to have their work posted in its entirety. Posting before Sunday, October 16th is not allowed. Authors choosing to post chapters separately do not need to claim additional dates, just a final posting date when they intend to post their last chapter. Authors do not need to inform mods of their intended posting schedule, mods will only be checking for completed works based on the date claims.

Example:
Author A has 4 chapters to post and wants to update their fic twice a week. Author A will need to select a final posting date about 2 weeks after posting begins. Author A wants to post chapter updates Sundays and Wednesdays, and starts posting their story October 16th, followed by the 19th and 23rd. October 26th is the date they need to claim and is the date that mods will be checking their work for completion.

Fanworks can be coordinated with their posted chapter, even if that falls before the chosen posting date. Mods will only be checking that fanworks have been posted based on the date claims.

Example:
Fanworker A’s author has chosen to do chaptered posting and the fanwork they created correlates with chapter 3 out of 4 chapters. Fanworker A can post their fanwork when their author posts chapter 3 of their work.

Author Posting Guidelines

Stories must be beta read. If you do not have a beta reader already, you can check out het_banghelp, which has a post set up for beta readers and authors seeking a beta. The HetBang Discord Server has a channel set up for finding a beta reader. There's also betaplease on DW, and for LJ, find_me_a_beta and beta_search.

Stories must be completed and posted by the end of the Amnesty Period, November 30th, in order to count as completed. If you’re working with a fanworker, posting an incomplete work can result in consequences. Solo Authors can still drop out at any time, even on November 30th.

If you’re working with a fanworker, try to coordinate a time of day to post. Mods do not expect for stories and fanworks to be posted at the same time, however!

If you're an author that has never used Ao3 before, here is Ao3's guide to posting on the Archive! Please reach out to the mods as well if you require help!

To post, go to The Het Big Bang 2022 Ao3 Collection, and click on “Post to Collection”. From there, fill out the form with your work, and make sure the “Post to Collections / Challenges” section has “TheHetBigBang2022”. If your work isn’t in the collection, we can’t approve it! You can also post regularly, from the top of the screen and input “TheHetBigBang2022” (without quotes) into “Post to Collections / Challenges” and it will appear in the collection. Once you have everything filled out the way you want, select “Preview”. In the preview window, make sure everything is formatted how you want, and then select “Post” at the bottom!

Embedding Fanworks:

Fanworker Posting Guidelines

All accompanying fanworks must either be posted to Ao3 and added to The Het Big Bang 2022 Ao3 Collection, OR linked/embedded in the story. Ao3 does not currently have a way to directly upload anything other than text to the site. This means that fanworks need to be hosted on another site and embedded on Ao3.

Fanworkers can choose to embed their work into the author’s story only, without creating their own post, or they can choose to just make their own post, or both embed their fanwork into the story and create their own Ao3. We recommend fanworkers make their own post, so they get the attention they deserve as well!

If you're a fanworker that has never posted to Ao3 before, here's a quick guide to follow! We recommend using the HTML editor, not the Rich Text editor, as it has a tendency to mess things up. The Ao3 links below have the HTML code required to post and instructions on how to use it. If you need help with HTML, please reach out and mods will assist you!

We recommend reading through both of these links, as they contain different information.

Hello everyone! Our 4th Check-In is now closed! If you missed it, an email will go out letting you know that you have been dropped from HetBang 2022. If you have been paired with an author (both 5k Little Bang and 10k Big Bang) or fanworker via claims, and you have not reached out to us to let us know you need to drop out due to something major happening (sickness, injury, accident, etc.), you will be banned for one round.

If you missed the check-in and still wish to participate, please contact mods ASAP, so that we can mark you as still participating! If you need to drop out and something major has happened (sickness, injury, accident, etc.) please just let us know and there will be no consequences for dropping out. Anyone that doesn't contact us will be banned, as we won't know about a situation unless we're told.

Mods will go over check-in information and make another post in a few days deciding how many stories can be posted per day, starting with at least 2 per day. This will not affect authors that choose to do chaptered posting. Posting instructions will go out at the end of September.

Important Posting Information for Authors and Fanworkers:

A note on beta-reading: You can choose the level of beta-reading you want, from hardcore story critiquing, to just a second pair of eyes for catching spelling and grammar errors. If you do not want to have your story heavily beta-read, this is fine! But please do get a second person to read through and help catch the spelling and grammar errors.

Fanworkers,
An Archive of Our Own account is required for fanworkers that plan to post their fanwork separately from their author’s story. Fanworkers are not required to post their work separately, if they do not want to, meaning they can have their work embedded in the author’s story and that will fulfill their posting requirement.

If you do not already have an Ao3 account, please get in queue ASAP: Archive of Our Own Invite Requests If your fanwork would be difficult to post to Ao3, such as a vid, playlist, or gifset, please contact us ASAP, we can help you post or discuss alternatives. Hey everyone! All stories have been claimed!!! Claims and fanworker sign-ups are now closed and the final match-up emails will go out today. Please make sure to get in contact with your author or fanworker ASAP so everyone can start working together!

If you still have some writing left to do, consider starting or joining a writing sprint on the HetBang Discord Server. Fanworkers are encouraged to join in as well, to have some structured creating time with the group! Last Day for Story Claims!

Hello everyone! Today is the last day for story claims! We’ve got three 5k Little Bang stories that have not been claimed. While we cannot guarantee a match for the 5k Little Bang stories, we’d really like to have all stories claimed by tomorrow! Claiming will close no sooner than 10AM PDT, Sunday July 17th to give everyone ample time to claim!

Just as a reminder, 5k stories that are claimed are required to be completed by the end of the HetBang 2022, the last day of which is November 30th. If you are a 5k author that currently has an unclaimed summary and you’re worried about completing your work, email us and we can take your summary down, no problem!

And if you are a fanworker that would like to claim multiple of the remaining stories, just let us know how many of your choices you want.
Example:
First choice: #1 Title, Second choice: #2 Title, Third choice: #3 Title. Can take 2 stories.
This means we will give you 2 stories, out of whichever stories are remaining. Please reach out if you have any questions, we’re here to help!

Missing the next check-in will result in you being dropped from HetBang 2022, which can lead to a 1-round ban, if you’ve been paired with a fanworker or author! Please reach out to the mods if you have any questions about this!

Story claiming is ongoing and additional claims are open! To check out what stories are left, visit the links below! We still have three 5k Little Bang stories that need to be claimed! If you are a fanworker that has already made a claim during the initial round, you are free to claim as many stories as you want. We just ask that fanworkers do not take on more than they are reasonably certain they can finish by the end of the HetBang 2022!
