Manage the Main Menu, Footer Menu, and Mobile Menu
WPResidence lets you create separate menus for the Main Menu, Mobile Menu, and Footer Menu.
All menus are created from:
Appearance > Menus
You can create one menu and assign it to multiple locations, or create different menus for each location depending on your website structure.
What these menus are
These are WordPress menus assigned to different display locations in WPResidence.
- Primary Menu is the main navigation menu shown in the website header.
- Mobile Menu is the menu structure used on mobile devices.
- Footer Menu is the menu shown in the footer area of the website.
They are created the same way from Appearance > Menus, but each one can be assigned to a different location.
This means you can:
- use the same menu in all locations
- use one menu for desktop and a different one for mobile
- create a smaller footer menu with only a few links
How to create menus and assign menu locations
- Go to Appearance > Menus.
- Create a new menu.
- Add links using the panels listed on the left side, such as Pages, Posts, Custom Links, or Categories.
- Arrange the menu items as needed.
- Save the menu.
After the menu is ready, go to Manage Locations.
From there, assign the menu to the needed location:
- Primary Menu
- Mobile Menu
- Footer Menu
Then click Save Changes.
Main Menu notes
The Primary Menu is the main navigation menu shown in the website header.
You can create a dedicated menu for the main navigation or reuse the same structure for other menu locations if that fits your setup better.
If you want to create advanced dropdown layouts for the main menu, you can also use the new Mega Menu system with WPResidence Studio Templates.

Mobile Menu
On mobile, the first click opens the parent menu item, and the submenu items will appear below it.
This is especially important if your menu structure includes dropdowns or submenus.
Footer Menu
To create the footer menu, go to Appearance > Menus and create a new menu.
Add the links you want to display in the footer using the panels listed on the left.
You can also add a Custom Link if you want to include a manual footer link.
Save the menu and assign it to the Footer Menu location.
This is how the footer links appear on the website front end:

This allows the footer menu area to remain assigned but empty.
Mega Menu is a separate setup
Mega Menu is a separate feature from the standard Main Menu, Mobile Menu, and Footer Menu setup.
The standard menu setup explained above is used to create and assign normal WordPress menu locations.
The Mega Menu is an advanced dropdown layout that is assigned to a top-level menu item and built separately with WPResidence Studio Templates.
This means:
- you first create the normal WordPress menu from Appearance > Menus
- then you create the Mega Menu content as a Studio Template
- then you assign that Studio Mega Menu template to a top-level menu item
Mega Menu can be used for the main desktop menu, and depending on your setup it can also be used in menus shown through WPResidence Studio headers.

How headers and footers are created in WPResidence
In WPResidence, the header and footer themselves can be created in 2 ways:
If you use the default theme options, the menus assigned in Appearance > Menus will be shown in the standard theme header and footer locations.
If you use WPResidence Studio to build a custom header or footer, the menu is still a WordPress menu created from Appearance > Menus, but it is displayed inside the custom Studio template with a specific Menu Widget.
So the menu structure is always created from the standard WordPress menu area, while the header and footer layout can be managed either by the theme default options or by WPResidence Studio.
