Please help this little girl.

As seen on News at Ten on ITV tonight. A family needs to raise £500,000 to take their little girl who isn't even 2 years old yet to America for potentially life saving treatment.

So far they have raised £96,000 and the total is going up after the tv appeal.

If you can help them, no matter how small the donation, please do so. I donated £10 and other donations range from £3 to £500. And if you can repost this on your lj too, that would be great. Imagine if this was your child.

http://www.justgiving.com/sophie-appeal/?pid=2014013&dtpn=1#DonationTable

There is more on this story here: http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/north-east-news/todays-evening-chronicle/2009/08/17/superheroes-turn-out-to-help-little-sophie-atay-72703-24460174/

Thankyou.

Ok so I've turned into a complete noob and forgotten how to edit certain parts of my journal. The bit to the left above my tags where I talk about keeping my fics in memories - how do I get back to edit it?!

This My Guests thing, does anyone actually use it? I mean, sometimes I'm curious as to whether anyone's reading the crap that spews from my brain but do I want everyone to know where I'm going?!

So, do you use it?

I've had some messages from people asking if I can friend them so that they can read my fics.

The short answer is no, I'm afraid. My fics are no longer available.

Good deed!

My daughter just did a good deed this morning and it made me proud which is why I want to mention it here.

Every morning when we take hubby to the train station, we see a man sat on the pavement, fast asleep with a sleeping dog inside his coat with it's head lolling out.

This morning, all my daughter spoke about on the way back home was how sorry she felt for the dog etc and how much would a tin of dog food cost. I stopped for petrol, bought a tin of dog food and a sausage roll and we went back to the station.

She gave the man the food and he was so grateful, saying he would eat the sausage roll later and that his dog hadn't eaten in ages, "Bless your heart" he said to her.

I told her that whatever else happens today, she can feel good because she thought of helping someone else instead of herself.

Ok so she didn't save the world today but she showed that good exists. She made me proud :o)

What about the children?

I just had a thought, regarding the whole 'disabled presenter scares kids' thing.

On the CBeebies channel is a programme called 'Something Special' which features sign language, children with hearing impairements and disabilities. My son loves this programme and keeps surprising me by signing words as well as saying them at random moments.

Well, what happens when a child sees a disabled child on the screen and asks their parents why they 'look different'?

Are the parents going to say "OMG!" and turn the channel off and start complaining to the BBC about it the same way they have about the presenter? If a child had the same disability as the presenter, would parents demand that the child shouldn't be shown on tv?

The presenter in question has a child of her own who probably grow up never questioning why their mum has only one hand, just the same way I grew up never questioning why my sister couldn't walk.

I just don't understand people.

Shame those idiots!

Saw this in Stacey's journal and just want to say something about it here.

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/a147553/disabled-bbc-presenter-scaring-children.html

When I first saw Cerrie presenting on CBeebies, I thought "What a great role model for any disabled child who might be watching!" It shows that anyone can do anything they want regardless of if they are disabled or not.

As for her 'scaring' toddlers - not once has my two year old wandered over to the telly and pointed at her arm and looked at me confused. He does this with plenty of other things but never at a person.

My sister is disabled - should she and her wheelchair be hidden away from public view to spare the stupid people any embarrassment or potential awkward moments where they might actually have to switch on their brain and explain to their child/children that we might not all look the same but it doesn't make us any different?!

I can just imagine the scenario...stupid parent sitting down with child to watch CBeebies.

Stupid parent: "OMG! That woman has one hand! WTF?!"

Child on hearing their parent's raised and panicked voice: "SCREAM!"

That's where it starts.

Sorry for the rant but these things really bug me.

There's a story on it over at sky news, sorry for not cutting the link, I've forgotten how!

http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/UK-News/Disabled-CBeebies-TV-Presenter-Cerrie-Burnell-Accused-Of-Scaring-Children-After-Complaints/Article/200902415227818?lpos=UK_News_First_Home_Article_Teaser_Region_1&lid=ARTICLE_15227818_Disabled_CBeebies_TV_Presenter_Cerrie_Burnell_Accused_Of_Scaring_Children_After_Complaints_

EDIT: If anyone wants to contact the BBC (as I did, to congratulate them on having her as a presenter), this is the page I used:
http://faq.external.bbc.co.uk/questions/contact/
