Evidence

The following is a post from my blog. It warrants double-posting.

http://dturcotte.wordpress.com/2009/06/20/evidence/

Sorry for not posting for so long. I've been ill.

I finally have evidence for my previous post. Remember the last post said that you shouldn't hold the door for me? Well, you really, really shouldn't.

I was doing laundry tonight and went outside for some fresh air while waiting on my dryer. I made it through the first door fine (slam lever to unlock door, pop door open, catch door with right hand, pull self through with left hand, steer with right hand). The trick is to keep rhythm to get through the second door. So, I went to pop the door open with my left hand and some very small lady yanked the door away from me before I could even touch it. I was still in motion, but had nothing to stop me. My chair is mostly stationary during all of this (slight forward momentum) because it makes things easier. So, my body kept moving forward, at a faster rate than my wheelchair.

The point is, I nearly flopped out of the chair. I had back spasms. I had leg spasms. I was in pain. It was all because some "helpful citizen" was trying to get her good deed for the day.

She apologized profusely. I told her not to do that again and rolled off. I had to stop and adjust myself because I wasn't seated properly. Then, I had more shots of pain and a few more spasms.

Do not open the door unless you know what you're doing. Do not yank the door away from me. Do not open the door and stand in the entryway telling me to go through. Do not be stupid.

As heard on the CTV Evening News

Jeff Lutes, Campaign Life Coalition

We're on a slippery slope...if we kill someone who is "age challenged" for being in the womb...it won't be long before we kill the elderly.

Morgan is merchandising abortions; he is charging for abortions and we don't think people should have to pay for their health care.

It's a political tool. This was not the time to address this issue...until Canadians have a chance to voice their opinion.

You can read more about the controversy here:
http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2008/07/02/morgentaler-reax.html

My opinion? I agree with what George Carlin said, "Pro-life is anti-women." Carlin may not have been the greatest of human beings, but that statement is certainly true. You can't say that you're against abortion until you've been in a situation where it is necessary. I wonder how many of the people at my old church who are so very anti-abortion were impregnated by rape. Or, I wonder how many were told by the doctor that they would die if the child was carried to term.

Certainly, I will concede that abortion as a main means of birth control is deplorable. It's a waste of resources. But, in the case where someone's life will be negatively impacted by having a child, when the person has taken any available precautions, without restrictions on the woman's right to sexual intercourse, an abortion shouldn't be controversial. Having abortions just for the "fun" of abortions is a waste of resources. Having an abortion because of an accident, rape, or due to a medical condition should be allowed at the woman's discretion.

But, who has abortions as a recreational activity? I'm bored today. Let's get pregnant so I can have an abortion. That just doesn't happen with sane people.

And, what's up with this "age challenged" crap? Are we so politically correct that we can't call a the fetus a "fetus"? Do we now have to bow down to more PC bull and say that a fetus is an "age-challenged human, pre-birth"? Ridiculous!

I think I'm going to be leaving York after this year. I'm applying to George Brown College for their ASL/DS program. If I get in, my loans will remain the same while tuition will be 1/4 what it is now.

This idea came to me last night when some of my buddies on IRC were looking up what their profs have for salaries. The profs were all getting 150-300 thousand dollars for doing what they do. If profs make that much, why do they suck at teaching?

Anyway, if I go into the ASL/DS program, I'll be able to progress to the interpreter program after one year. That means after one year I'll have a diploma of some sort, unlike University where I would work my butt off for 4 years to get a degree. Plus, I'll be able to start work even after just the one diploma. So, it would definitely be a help. What do you all think? Should I stick it out at York and have to worry about my potential finances after university, or should I go into a trade school and get some training for guaranteed employment?

Today I made a chocolate cheesecake. Last week I made a cinnamon cake. The cinnamon cake was made with the following recipe:

2 mugs of flour in a 9 inch round pot

Dust the top with cinnamon until it streaks white but looks mostly red

Stir in (with a fork) half a mug of sugar

Add one teaspoon of baking soda (measured in the hand)

Add one half teaspoon of salt (measured in the hand)

Stir until mixed well

Dust the top with icing sugar, as you did the cinnamon

Make a well in the dry mix in the pot

pour in half a mug of milk and stir.

Continue adding in milk by the half mug until it has a kind of half way to bread dough consistency, so kind of sticky and not runny.

Add one egg and stir. It should be a cake-batter kind of consistency now. If not, add more milk.

Bake on 350 degrees until fully baked

Icing:

mix 1 to 1.5 mugs of icing sugar in the pot (you cleaned the pot by now) with cinnamon using the method used in the cake batter mix

Add the rest of the milk you have (because you only have like half a mug of milk left because you used up a bunch of milk yesterday) into the pot.

Put the icing mixture on the stove and heat to a low heat, you know, like for melting chocolate.

Add more icing sugar until thick, but still pourable.

Seeing as the cake is made and cooled a bit by the icing is finished, you can pour the icing over top, making sure to cover every inch of the cake. It is very tasty, especially when you are craving something sweet and are out of chocolate.

I solemnly swear to never use another pre-fabricated recipe again, or not.

I just wanted you all to know that if you google for "Telepoll Sucks", or even without quotes, it directs you first to my livejournal. So, that's probably how I got my first Russian porn spam. Check it out! It's at the bottom (I don't recommend going to the link).

http://heavyd.livejournal.com/40903.html?view=240327#t240327

    <lj:music>George Carlin's Life is Worth Losing</lj:music>

I'm about to run out of bandwidth for the week on this IP. But, I had to make this post.

To quote George Carlin:

Men are 4 times more likely than women to commit suicide, though women attempt it more. So, men are better at it. That's somethin' else you gals will want to be working on. Well, if you want to be truly equal, you're gonna have to start taking your own lives in greater numbers.

-George Carlin, "Life is Worth Losing"

I'd like to note that I am (mostly) anti-suicide and (completely) pro-George Carlin.

Another big "thank you" to Acadia. Since they wrongfully took my account to collections (denying my payment in order to take me to collections under the pretenses that I was refusing payment), my credit is ruined for six years from that date. So, Acadia ruined my credit until 2012, meaning that I can't get the additional funding I need to complete this school year without defaulting on payment.

They only report to TransUnion, as well. That's why my credit is awesome so far as Equifax is concerned. Anyway, is there any way that I can take legal action against this, or is what Acadia is doing completely legal?

I hate you, Acadia. May you burn to the ground, or flood again (it was really funny the first time).
