Prompt: Q, the Doctor, Data, and Sherlock walk into a bar. According to my friend Haven, the world will instantly end.
*To be fair, I said the world was probably ending. There may or may not have been a sense of extreme immediacy...

"Oh, well now, when I said that I didn't mean it so... immediately," The Doctor says, lanky arm gesturing vaguely at the view outside the window. "Convenient to run into Q though. Outside of time and space, all very nice."

"Indeed," Data chimes in, "until reality begins to break down, throwing us into the Void in three minutes, twenty-two seconds, 15 milliseconds, 4 microseconds and--"

"I'm quite certain we don't need a countdown," Sherlock bites out, cutting him off. (In The Doctor's opinion he's just put out for being cut off from his Companion, for which he can sympathize.) "After all, it is flashing in bright red lights on the read out over there."

"Well, we are in the Q Continuum... for the moment," The Doctor says meaningfully, glancing over at, well, Q.

The man just raises his eyebrows and shrugs. "I don't see what the problem is. I assure you the Q Continuum will maintain itself." The Doctor frowns at him, which usually garners some sort of reaction one way or another. "After all, it isn't as though this is the only reality. Honestly, I don't know why you're so worried, Data. We'll connect to another one quickly enough."

The Doctor frowns some more, and once it's clear Q (any of them, all of them, annoying really, reminds him of his own people in a way) doesn't intend on doing anything whatsoever, he straightens his bow tie and pulls on his jacket. "Yes. Well. I hope you won't find it rude if I use my TARDIS here."

"What is it you think you're doing?" Sherlock asks, eyes narrowing like now, just now, there might finally be something interesting.

The Doctor smiles at him for a moment before finally saying, "I haven't figured that part out yet." He turns on his heel walking purposefully away. "Come along, Sherlock. Mr. Data."

Hey guys... I know, I know, I've been really absent from LJ lately. My headspace and motivation is rocky at best. The whole still-haven't-got-a-job thing isn't helping.

BUT.

I have amazing friends.

They've gone and made a comm to help raise money for the wedding, to make it special and help out with some stuff that our budget can't cover.

1beautifulday is an auction comm set up to make One Beautiful Day for someone. Right now, that person is me (and David). (If there's someone else you'd like to raise money for, feel free to poke the mods when this auction is done. They've set it up to do different people.)

So... some of you have heard about my fiance's fabulous cooking. And all of you have seen that he's released a cookbook. He's got Hatch chili sauce, brownies, and a recipe up for bidding in the Goods & Miscellaneous section. Check him out... and all the rest.

And a big thanks and Seriously guys I LOVE YOU to phantisma and darling_lisa and everybody that's participating. It means so much to me. ♥

... What the actual fuck? Did you seriously ask David if he has any friends that could miss the wedding ceremony? Because you want to invite all your friends? Seriously?

I'm sorry, I know that someone is going to have to miss the ceremony in order to let deliveries etc. into the reception venue. But the number of our friends invited to/involved in the wedding is something like 50. The number that you get to invite is 150.

So fuck you. Get the fuck over yourself.

... At what point of "I'm really not interested in ever talking to Summer* again" did you think you ought to be telling me that she's told her mother that she's "crying over our friendship"?

I didn't let her guilt me into being friends with her again, and I'm not fucking letting you do it either.

Suffice it to say I didn't like that it seemed she was trying to guilt me into being friends, or that she had so many excuses for the way she'd treated me it utterly undermined any attempt at apologizing.

I'm sure everyone and their mother is making a post today about SOPA (and its sister legislation in the Senate, PIPA). I'm sure you've already seen (and read up for yourself) about the line between trying to rightfully protect copyright, and the foolishly (and purposefully) vague language of the bills is dangerous.

It's dangerous for innocent people.

It's dangerous for start up internet companies.

It's dangerous for fandom.

Fair use all but disappears from the internet, and as one of the big players of industry, the US legislation could set the tone internationally. Where once we supported anti-censorship movements in places like China, we'll do the same thing to our own, with plenty of room for abuse.

Because any company big enough, who acts "in good faith", could have LiveJournal blocked just because of the fanvids being posted. Because of a link to a fanvid.

Our representatives have been paid well for their votes, so you need to make your voice heard. Sign the petitions. Email your representatives (places like Change.org and Google have information on how). Call your representatives. If you're like me and don't like calling people, fax them. Yes, your reps do still have fax machines. You can head here to do it.

Do something. Don't sit silent. They're counting on that.

Not that anybody cares all that much... But one of the things that was awesome when I went home was going to the movies.

Mostly because it meant that dad couldn't lecture me in the middle of it. Like how he ranted at length about how awful it is that nature shows dare to air animals breeding. Clearly they're perverts, and the only people that will care are the teenagers that will point and laugh. (...Yes. Seriously.)

We went to see Sherlock Holmes 2: Game of Shadows... Which was fun (for me) but there's one part I disagree with a bit viciously, and in my opinion it was weaker than the first movie. It was a little rushed, as well. But I still had fun, mostly because RDJ and Jude Law together on adventures amuses the hell out of me generally.

But the winner was definitely Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. I wouldn't have called that. I loved the first MI movie, but the others were touch and go, especially after Tom Cruise took a long dive into the short end of the pool and it got hard to separate the characters from the actor with his movies.

But Ethan Hunt is... well, Ethan Hunt. And there was Simon Pegg and Jeremy Renner, which only made it that much harder to say no. Quite pleasantly, the woman in the group (whom I assumed would be token female) was actually strong and self directed, and not simply arm candy the way women have been in previous MI films.

Did I mention I loved Jeremy Renner? Cos I did. LOTS. I mean, I adored Pegg's Benji in the last film, and he holds strong in this one as well. But Renner. (And his ass, but that's beside the point.) I won't spoil, but suffice it to say for me he was kind of the heart of it, despite the obvious focus on Cruise/Hunt. (A case can and has been made for Brandt = Hawkeye, too. I'm all over the crossover with Avengers for this.)

It was also nice to see a movie where things go wrong. I won't go into detail, but it isn't just a twist of OH NO, WILL OUR HEROES MAKE IT? or something simply played for laughs. I think it took the movie from being something quite typical and made it a little more... Hm. Real? Sort of? Inasmuch as any MI movie can be, lol. I connected with it more because of that.

So yes. Go see it. :D

I'm behind. I'm so behind. I kinda went totally dark during my stay in NJ rather than keeping up or doing anything I'd meant to while I was there.

Before I babble though... I disappear for a couple of weeks and suddenly everybody's leaving LJ? Has the storm passed, now? I do have a DW (same username) but I've never used it and never particularly set it up... Do I need to? :peers into the ether:

I love my parents, I do. But... There's something about that house. About the way they are, it sucks out my soul. I've said before I'd rather live on the street than move back, because moving back would be as good as dying, on the inside if not literally. This trip back just proved it.

Not that it was all bad. I adore my brother's girlfriend, Cassie. Adore her. To bits. She was my sanity while she was there.

Mom and I connected about as much as we're capable of, which was nice. Dad wasn't a dick, for once. Well, except for how he had a fight with my brother the day before I left so my brother left to visit a friend in Maryland early. I got to visit with my Auth Ruth and her husband Joe, whom I haven't seen in... Well, for a very ridiculously long time. Since before high school, I think. She had some neat stories about our ancestry, cos she's into doing family histories and things. Maybe when I get the stuff from her I'll share some of the stories she told us. I wouldn't re-tell them very well, unfortunately...

And there's the part where I bought my wedding dress. :g: We had an appointment at Kleinfeld, which was lovely. If anybody watches Say Yes to the Dress, it'll mean something to you to say my consultant was Audrey. She was quite lovely and very attentive. I got a Henry Roth dress (I believe the style is called Camille?)... and he was there doing a trunk show. He poked his head in, and was utterly kind and fabulous and asked all sorts of questions about what I do and what the wedding's meant to be like, and preceded to waive all sorts of fees we would have had to pay (like letting out the cup and the rush order fee...) and let us in on the trunk show sale, so that in the end, we paid half of what we should have full price.

Brilliant!

Keep in mind that this dress doesn't fit me... this was the sample dress. It's a size too small, and a cup size too small. But you can still see how lovely it is, and how lovely a properly sized one will be... What you can't see is the corset back, or the very small train. I think it's perfect. :)

So yes. I am still working on things, but of course I have finally given in and gotten sick... Cassie, Dad, and David have all been sick. With any luck, I've been fending it off just long enough that it won't hit me so badly. I hope...

If you follow me on Twitter or G+ then you've already heard that I haven't got that job I went through all those hoops for. :sighs: Although honestly, a lot of the depression I've been in lately seems to have been connected to stressing about that, and now that it's done I'm doing a bit better.

I'll start a new round of trying again in January, after I've gotten back from New Jersey.

Speaking of NJ, I fly in Thursday (Dec. 15th) and fly out on Dec. 29th. I know there's a bunch of people who won't be in town, but if there's anyone who is, hit me up and we can figure out a time to hang out. It's probably going to be just going out to eat and/or a movie or something, because I really need to work on the novel and Christmas presents and editing.

The only day I don't have available right now (aside from Christmas Eve/Christmas, of course) is Tuesday (Dec. 20th).

Because I got an appointment at the bridal boutique Kleinfeld. My mom has even made me submit an application to be on Say Yes to the Dress. Craziness, I tell you, craziness. But they have dresses I like, and mom can't be a part of a lot of the planning and whatnot right now, so I want to give her something she can be really excited about.

Hm. I thought I had something else to post about, but I've either forgotten or I've gone mad...

So I've been perusing the graphics in my collection of stuff I've made (because if there's one thing I hate, it's basically making the same icon again, later, at a separate time, which is not the same as riffing on a particular image and playing with it on my own) and realized... I'd never posted these either!

Yeah, so... one of the requests for the holidays made me realize that I never actually posted these. I made them back in June. Part of me isn't satisfied with them (or chunks of them) because I was really playing with filters and coloring etc, but I think I'm also slightly too hard on myself and am open to con-crit.

I've been debating whether or not to do holiday presents this year. My writing has been more sporadic this year than before, and I'm trying to focus it more on original writing and to get somewhere with that beyond dallying. Plus, when I head back to NJ there's going to be dress shopping and holiday goodness and (if anybody's in town) visiting with people, and I'm not really sure how timely I could be getting words on the page for gifts.

So I'm going to do something a little bit different. I'm going to offer graphics instead. Not sure if you'd want to make use of my skills? Check out my icons and headers.

I meant to do this earlier, but there was not internet at David's parents' house, and when I came home I was carsick.

But I want to take a moment to say thanks to everybody who reads my blog, who comments, who have become friends. You've gotten me through some really rough, fucked up spots in life and share new amusements.

And especially to darling_lisa, canadiangoddess, ravensword, orphan_project, badfalcon & elebridith... I don't know how I deserve brilliant people like you in my life, but I'm not really sure where I'd be right now without you. You're awesome and I love you and I can't wait until I get to see you (at least some of you!) again. It's too far away!

In which I am trying to post more

I keep meaning to write small catch-you-up posts... and then forgetting or getting distracted, and now I'm not even sure what I wanted to write about anymore...

I have a new layout! Let me know if you're having problems with the header... as of right now the FTP is up and active, and I can see everything properly, but I've been told that the header wasn't displaying and I don't know what will need poking at if it's not working across the board.

HOWEVER, major props and thanks to koryou, who helped me take two themes snagged from milou_veronica blend together perfectly. Thank you~~ ♥

David's finally got his license back! There were problems, way back when things were at their absolute shittiest, and he's had an ID for this whole time. He'd thought he was going to need to re-test... but he got a notification in the mail saying it was time to "renew his license". We made this face o.O and he went in to straighten things out.

Turns out the DMV isn't always a gate to hell. He had a very good person manning the desk, and they went with what the system said. David filled out the right paperwork, paid the usual fee for renewal, and has a shiny, proper license! Well, ok, he's got a temporary one at the moment, but he'll have the real one soon. :D

Work on the novel has been crawling. I keep writing, but my word counts are kind of crappy, so it's inching... And yet, when I looked at my overall word count I'm over 20,000 words now. At just previous to what's probably half way. Dude. Dude. I originally plotted this out as a novella... and god only knows what length it'll be after editing. But... it really is aiming at novel length. Sweet. :D

Coming along but just as slow is stuff-that-I'm-not-writing. Which may or may not require me to watch Avengers movies. :coughs:

Of course, I've had no inspiration whatsoever for what to submit to the Austin Chronicle's annual contest. I need to dig up the story I wrote years ago that a friend of mine dubbed "casually nihilistic". Maybe with a little (or, uh, a lot) of cleaning up it'd be worthy? :shrugs: Better than nothing, unless inspiration bites me hard in the ass.

Hm. I guess that's it for now. I need to edit. And write. ... Um, and eat.

I'm not looking forward to walking later. It's cold, and I haven't got cold weather athletic anything for going running in. Meh.

Castle/Supernatural - The Winchesters showing Kate and Castle (possibly Ryan and Esposito) that sometimes you need to be afraid of ghosts:
"Freeze," Kate shouts, gun trained on the tall one (... taller one), and trusting Esposito to cover the other; she already doesn't like that there's been another murder in this "haunted" house, not when they figured this out already, not when the guy's in jail.

"Sorry, can't," he says, never even telegraphing his moves as he ducks, moving forward and pushing her gun up and away as he knocks her into the wall; he's still moving and past him... past him she can see Rick being picked up... into the air.... by a woman whose feet aren't even touching the ground and then thrown into the next room.

"Dean!" the taller one shouts, and the other one moves, giving the tall one the room to aim his shot gun at the... the woman... and firing, dispersing her into a strange plume of smoke.

Leverage/Burn Notice - Nate, Michael and Sam get caught by some bad guys -Fiona and Eliot have to work together to help get them out:
"... So we're waiting for Fi," Sam says, and man, he's missing his poolside mojitos right about now, and tries not to think about their odds, or how it is he got to this point in his life, "and a guy you got in a fight with while he was working for Moreau?"

"He's a changed man," Ford says, and Sam thinks maybe the man needs that drink more than he does, "not that I'd want to be the mark right about now."

Michael grins that crazy little grin of his, and Sam decides that it's about how much his friends must love him, not because of that really, really big explosion in the next room that puts cracks in the ceiling and covers them all with plaster dust.

Supernatural/Justified - Raylan confuses Dean for a prostitute. Souless!Sam has no problem putting a price on his brother's ass for the Marshal:
"You gotta be kidding me," Dean growls, but the Marshal's not looking at him anymore and when Dean looks at Sam, he swallows hard and tries to take a step back; Sam wraps a hand around his elbow, though, stupid fast and stronger than Dean remembers Sam ever being.

"That make you his pimp?" the Marshal asks, tipping his hat back to get a better look at Sam, who grins back at him like a shark, a happy shark, with too many teeth and all the more frightening because of the dimples; the Marshal nods and pays no mind to the way Dean tries to jerk away when he offers, "A hundred for two hours at the motel round the corner."

"Hey!" Dean objects (tries to object, not that either bastard is fucking listening), just as Sam counters with, "One hundred gets you a blow job here where you stand, and if you want to go back to the motel, it's a grand per hour, maybe extra depending on how... interesting things need to be."

Dean can't believe he's standing here watching a United States fucking Marshal suck his teeth and decide whether or not Dean's worth the money.

"Well, Marshal, you've got yourself a deal," Sam says, his hand heavy on Dean's arm to make him kneel; it's shock more than anything else that keeps Dean from resisting (hell, any other day and he might have flirted with the man), and he opens his mouth when the Marshal puts his cock in front of Dean.

Castle/Justified - Ryan/Tim - Vampires weren't the only experimentation Ryan has done in the past:
Castle's giving him that look, that putting the story together look, and Esposito finds something else to do so Castle can't needle him with questions too; Castle scoots closer, ignoring the way Kate rolls her eyes behind him, and asks "So where did you learn so much about snipers? Esposito I get, but..."

Det. Ryan expected that question, so he doesn't flinch, doesn't blush, doesn't stumble over his words or mention a US Army Ranger by the name of Tim Gutterson; he does none of these things, but he does smile and say, "I dated a sniper once."

RPS - J2 - Jensen is a dog groomer. Jared is a werewolf who loves getting bathed by the hot groomer but thinks that in human form, he wouldn't have a chance with the pretty human:
The first time it happens, it takes him by surprise and he nearly trips over himself to keep from walking straight into him (a point which Jensen discovers later, because he's a softie, and despite spending all day working with some of the fussiest clients - both the humans and the dogs - he gave him a proper bath and combing); this is a surprisingly impressive feat in and of itself, given how big the dog is, though dog may well be a misnomer, not that Jensen could find any news about missing wolves or part wolves either from zoos or the hauty-tauty private collectors, let alone the rediscovery of living dire wolves.

He's a sweet boy, though, and clearly well trained because every time he's shown up since then he's been sitting calmly beside Jensen's door when Jensen comes home on friday afternoons, tail thumping loudly on the porch and hazel eyes bright with what Jensen has no doubt is happiness; Jensen's taken to rubbing him behind the ears and feeding him a little before he breaks out the hose and the soap (cos there's no way this dog is going to fit in any of the tubs Jensen has).

"I guess I'm gonna have to figure out somethin' to call you huh?"

Jared just lets his tongue loll out happily and doesn't show any sign of disappointment, no matter how much he wants to tell Jensen his name; he can't, not now, not anymore, cos if Jensen ever found out...

Well, aside from the whole shock-at-the-very-real-existence-of-shapeshifters thing, it's kind of a breach of trust; Jensen's let Jared into his home, into his life, has said things he wouldn't say to a person, like how lonely he's been since his ex left and took the dogs with him.

Jared thinks that maybe if he showed up more often, Jensen wouldn't mind, but he's afraid to, not because Jensen might find out, but because Jared wouldn't want to leave; Jared can't, won't, live life as just a dog...
