So, without further ado, let us start off with number five!
***
5th Place: Hamster Kin by The Black Knight
Though his Substack name might be The Black Knight, do not be fooled for this story is a fun and playful sci-fi short story where a cute little hamster defeats cyborgs. This is a story little boys would enjoy.
4th Place: In Which There Are Far Too Many Potatoes by Glori
Miss Glori writes an absolute CLASSIC tale of a Knight with a potato addiction and his timid wife who has had it up to her ears in potato meal preparing. It’s playful and fun, bouncy, a story to read to children. It gives off a classic silliness that someone like George McDonald would smile at and appreciate.
3rd Place: 132 Meadow Lane and What Happened There by Jenny C

Miss Jenny wrote a mystery about a curious and stubborn chap who just moved to a new town and was greeted by his neighbors telling him not to go near a certain house because of the horrors that go on there. Classic mystery story with memorable characters and scenes. She did a great job of building her world. It had an Autumn vibe to it.
2nd Place: Embers by Sky Lance

Wall of darkness chasing a father and his daughter who are trying to escape on horse back. AMAZING AMAZING story, we loved it so much. The atmosphere, the story, the style, the theme, it’s great. Lance, seriously, please turn this into a novel! The only thing we didn’t like was that it didn’t end like a short story, it ended like the end of a chapter, we needed more. PLEASE write more. And shoot us a message or something when/if you do write more (if you haven’t already) cause we wanna read it!
1st Place: A Woman who was Locked in a Car for 8 Months by Wirrowac
https://docs.google.com/document/d/15cqu86ol1243_ZxqVa3R3NpDZ0VB66lKM9NZEh6f2Ek/edit?usp=sharing
Like the title says, Wirrowac gives us an intriguing short story about a girl who was locked in a car. It’s a mystery, and as you’re reading it you’re wondering what exactly is going on, how is all of this happening, and in the end it all makes sense. The ending is crazy! This had the things we were looking for. Interesting story that we wanted to hear the end of, but also wrapped up nicely. Well done and congratulations!!!! YOU WON!!!!!

All in all this was quite the experience! We had some good ones and bad ones, some we enjoyed, others we just…umm, well, let’s just say we got a taste of what it would feel like to be an editor.
I hope we get to do this again! It’s so great to build/be apart of this writing community. Thank you Seth for putting this on and making it happen, this was a fun idea and I’m glad we could do it together! And thank you all for participating! May the Lord bless you and all your endeavors! Happy writing.
No Retreat
No Surrender
And May the Kingdom of God Prevail!
Blessings from,
Hadley and Seth (your amazing judges)

Wonderfully lit together!
Thanks for hosting the challenge! It was fun! Hadley I haven’t written any more on Embers yet. If you liked that short story you should read “The Road” by Cormac McCarthy. It has similar vibes, but less Christian.
