Furs on the campus?

When I started out at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam my first message post was an inquiry whether there were any furries at the VU. Only one response followed from a guy who knew a fur whom had attended the VU a long time ago.
I gave up hope on finding kindred spirits upon the campus. Until just about an hour ago...

In between lectures I ran down to the cafetaria here at the VU, tagging along with some friends. As I approached the door a girl stepped out holding a cup of (what I presumed to be) coffee. I made a sudden stop as we nearly bumped into eachother. She also froze in her pace and gave a quiet "meep". After a brief pause we straightened ourselves and she walked on.
It was when I entered the cafetaria that it hit me. "Did she just gave me a *meep*? ... She did," I reassured myself, "using that exact word." Now am I mistaken to say that the word "meep" is mostly used by furs?

I should have asked her about it just then but as I turned around she was already gone.
