Fish Outta Water
Welcome to the wild world of fishy invaders!

Our Message
Hey, we are Fish Outta Water! We are a team of undergraduate college students working hard to bring light to the problem of non-indigenous aquatic species that are disrupting the environment for our native ecosystems. Our mission is to shine a light on a productive way of fishing that not only benefits our environment, but also fills your tummy!

Biodiversity Decline
Invasive species like Asian Carp outcompete native fish for food, reducing biodiversity. This weakens the resilience of ecosystems, making them more vulnerable to environmental changes.
Fisheries Disruption
Lionfish in the Caribbean consume commercially valuable species like snapper, impacting local fisheries and tourism industries that rely on healthy marine ecosystems.
Water Quality Degradation
European Carp disrupt aquatic ecosystems by uprooting plants and stirring up sediment, leading to poor water quality, which harms native species and affects human use of these waters.
Predation on Native Species
Snakehead Fish are aggressive predators that decimate native fish and amphibians, leading to the collapse of native populations and causing imbalances in aquatic ecosystems.
Economic and Ecosystem Loss
Zander in European lakes outcompete local species, harming both the fishing industry and the natural ecosystem by reducing native fish populations that support aquatic health.
Ecosystem Collapse
Nile Perch in Lake Victoria led to the collapse of native fish species, which triggered broader ecological damage, affecting both the lake’s biodiversity and human reliance on it for food.
The map will tell you where the invasive species are so you can fish them! Data sourced from the US government.
