So I still exist, but the last year was tremendously busy at school. I sort of withdrew from public fandom and icon-making, but the FFXII fandom was already dwindling before I left. I never stopped writing, though; in near-nightly sessions, gabranth and I have churned out novels of Basch/Gabranth goodness that will never see the internet, but has made us very happy. This year, school has given me a bunch of tech toys and told me to go use them, and of course, my first thought was to get back into iconning now that I don't have to sit uncomfortably at the computer to do so. I doubt that's what the Administration intends, but hey, whatever.
Anyway, one of my new fandoms is Game of Thrones, thanks to gabranth, and I picked up the Feast of Ice and Fire cookbook. I've tried a couple recipes, but really wanted to bake Sansa's damn lemon cakes. So I did that this morning instead of working on my syllabus.
The recipe is crazy easy, even for someone as baking-stupid as I. However, I started to panic when my dough remained all dry and crumbly instead of magically adhering; adding a little bit of water fixed that right up. Also, the recipe said to bake at 350 for 15 minutes, but my toothpick tests extended that to 25 minutes, possibly because my cakes (they're really cookies) are kind of big. The taste test is a success, though: sweet, light, and yummy, they're perfect for breakfast or a snack with coffee or tea. I'm going to have to take these suckers into work or Gabranth (the furry one) and I will be eating these all day.
