This is accomplished through Wal-Mart\u2019s policy of paying workers below subsistence wages, and importing goods that have been produced under slave-labor conditions overseas. Often, communities will even give Wal-Mart tax incentives, for the right to be destroyed.\u201d That post has many statistics based on actual sales tax receipts of how Wal-Mart impacts both the town where they build and neighboring towns.\" href=\"https:\/\/growmap.com\/kaufman-texas\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">How WalMart Practices affect small business and local tax revenues<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>AMAZON CENSORSHIP: DELETES KINDLE BOOKS<\/h3>\n<p>In Why Amazon Went Big Brother, Arstechnica wrote:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Amazon.com shocked customers yesterday when it reached out to hundreds, if not thousands of Kindles and simply deleted texts that users had not only purchased, but had started to read!&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The New York Times reported:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In <a title=\"More articles about George Orwell.\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/topic\/person\/george-orwell?inline=nyt-per\" rel=\"nofollow\">George Orwell<\/a>\u2019s \u201c1984,\u201d government censors erase all traces of news articles embarrassing to Big Brother by sending them down an incineration chute called the \u201cmemory hole.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, it was \u201c1984\u201d and another Orwell book, \u201cAnimal Farm,\u201d that were dropped down the memory hole \u2014 by Amazon.com.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Amazon customers were so outraged that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.informationweek.com\/it-leadership\/amazon-says-it-will-stop-deleting-kindle-books\">Amazon Said They Will Stop Deleting Kindle Books<\/a>. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">When they start editing books you already bought how many will notice? Almost NONE! <\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_13484\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13484\" style=\"width: 231px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-13484 \" title=\"Boycott Amazon\" src=\"https:\/\/growmap.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/boycott-300x161.gif\" alt=\"Boycott Amazon\" width=\"231\" height=\"124\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-13484\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">MUST READ: Amazon moving to force authors to use THEM as their publisher<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>SMALL BUSINESS INDIE BOOK SELLER BOYCOTT<\/h2>\n<p>This week, Small Business supporters called for a boycott of Amazon because of their recent targeting of all small businesses that sell books, electronics and anything else Amazon offers.<\/p>\n<p>Sarah Woodbury called Amazon&#8217;s tactic of offering buyers a discount for reporting prices and not buying from local businesses <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&#8220;a pretty low blow\u2014despicable\u2014&#8230;<\/span>&#8221; in her comprehensive post on her Word Hits book review blog about <a title=\"RECOMMENDED READING: much more detail on why Amazon is not a company we should be supporting\" href=\"https:\/\/wordhits.wordpress.com\/2011\/12\/09\/the-one-click-grinch-amazon-launches-holiday-attack-on-retail-stores-by-paying-customers-to-walk-out\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">Amazon&#8217;s Price Check App<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>&#8220;Amazon wants shoppers to scan the price <\/strong>of electronics,<\/span> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">toys, or dvd\u2019s with their <strong>Price Check app <\/strong><\/span>(thus sending them [Amazon] this data) &#8211; and then walk out of the store to get a discount of up to $5 on that item online.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This is going too far &#8211; and on top of their choosing to have ambulances stand by instead of bringing their warehouses down to a safe working temperature and then making employees stand outside in 26 degree weather &#8211;\u00a0 I am joining the calls to officially boycott Amazon.<\/p>\n<p>I have previously written about Amazon&#8217;s heartless employee practices which intentionally endanger their employee&#8217;s lives.\u00a0 Details on that are at the bottom of this post so that all Amazon related issues are in this one post for easier sharing.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I realize that many bloggers and affiliate marketers are in the middle<br>\nof their prime revenue generating period and now may be the worst<br>\npossible time to make changes, so I ask you to at least <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">REMEMBER.<\/span><br>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">Change who you&#8217;re promoting at<\/span><\/strong> <strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">your earliest convenience.<\/span><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright\" style=\"border: 0pt none;\" title=\"ShareASale Affiliate Network\" src=\"https:\/\/static.shareasale.com\/image\/47\/160x600.gif\" alt=\"ShareASale Most Trusted Affiliate Network\" width=\"160\" height=\"600\" border=\"0\"><\/p>\n<p>As you can tell by the tower ad in the center column of this blog, I have chosen to go with Bigger Books as an alternative to Amazon. Their affiliate program is on ShareASale.<\/p>\n<p>The ShareASale Affiliate Network is where I always look first because they have been protecting merchants and affiliates alike from predatory affiliate practices.<\/p>\n<p>We need to encourage them to continue to make that their most important USP.\u00a0 It IS the reason we use, recommend and promote ShareASale.<\/p>\n<p>Without a continued commitment to keep their network clean they will be just another network.<\/p>\n<h2>BOYCOTT AMAZON TAX NEXUS ISSUE:<\/h2>\n<p>There are numerous other calls to boycott Amazon including the lobbying organization <a title=\"Amazon is facing a boycott from a coalition of nonprofits in California over its opposition to an internet sales tax. The group is calling for users to cancel their accounts unless the world's largest internet retailer stops its attempts to force a repeal.\" href=\"https:\/\/www.huffpost.com\/entry\/amazon-boycott-sales-tax_n_928085\" rel=\"nofollow\">Alliance for Main Street Fairness boycott Amazon<\/a> call over the sales tax Nexus issue.<\/p>\n<p>While obviously wishing to APPEAR TO BE a small business organization, that alliance was actually formed by large retail corporations such as AutoZone, Best Buy, Home Depot, Sears, Target, and Wal-Mart.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>That alliance is a good example of why intelligent individuals MUST <\/strong><\/span><br>\n<span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>learn to be VERY discerning in what information you believe. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>The quality and quantity of disinformation <\/strong><\/span><br>\n<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>being generated every day is astounding. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">BOYCOTT AMAZON CENSORSHIP ISSUE:<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_13479\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13479\" style=\"width: 147px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-13479 \" title=\"Boycott amazon\" src=\"https:\/\/growmap.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/boycott-amazon-300x279.jpg\" alt=\"Boycott amazon\" width=\"147\" height=\"137\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-13479\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image Credit SoYouThinkYouCanInvest ~ Click Image to Read their Boycott Amazon post<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Amazon has periodically banned books that reveal truths that are not in line with what the global elite want us to believe. When they banned one such book, The Secret of Oz, some called for us to boycott Amazon for censorship.<\/p>\n<p>Amazon lifted the ban of that book so there was no boycott. As I come across other incidents of censorship for political reasons I will add them here. If you know of any please leave details including links in the comments.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">BOYCOTT AMAZON CHILD PROTECTION ISSUE:<\/h2>\n<p>Amazon is also being boycotted for selling books that are pro-child molestation. This issue makes it clear that the issue of free speech is not a simple one.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">We can not protect ALL speech; however, as soon as we <\/span><\/strong><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">move<br>\nto limit SOME speech all Freedom of Speech is imperiled. <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are no easy answers when it comes to allowing free speech while at least keeping the most objectionable issues behind closed doors where only those who really want to see them can voluntarily go.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>Laws of all kinds are used more to protect evil<br>\nthan to protect us FROM evil. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"attachment_13405\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13405\" style=\"width: 198px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cetronia.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-13405 \" title=\"Cetronia Ambulances\" src=\"https:\/\/growmap.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/CetroniaAmbulances.jpg\" alt=\"Cetronia Ambulances\" width=\"198\" height=\"149\"><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-13405\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cetronia Ambulance Corps hired to stand by at Amazon warehouses<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>When you buy and recommend books this year I ask you to <strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">consider supporting small book sellers<\/span><\/strong> instead of automatically buying or acting as an affiliate for Amazon.<\/p>\n<p>This is especially important in light of the extremely bad publicity <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Amazon<\/strong><\/span> is getting REPEATEDLY regarding their <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">putting profits before lives<\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Amazon endangers employee&#8217;s lives<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-media-max-width=\"560\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">NYC residents have been getting these emergency alerts since 7:30pm. The situation is\u201clife-threatening\u201d and we\u2019re being told not to travel unless fleeing or given an evacuation order. And what does Amazon do? In 2021, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/12\/11\/business\/amazon-deaths-warehouse-tornado\"><strong>six employees were killed and one severely injured<\/strong> when a tornado struck the warehouse<\/a>. Employees were never trained where to go; no tornado drills were ever done in advance. That's according to the Allentown Morning Call, which deserves props for a terrific story on the brutal conditions inside the Lehigh Valley facility. The Morning Call interviewed 20 employees and found, Workers said they were forced to endure brutal heat inside the sprawling warehouse and were pushed to work at a pace many could not sustain. Employees were frequently reprimanded regarding their productivity and threatened with termination, workers said. The consequences of not meeting work expectations were regularly on display, as employees lost their jobs and got escorted out of the warehouse. Such sights encouraged some workers to conceal pain and push through injury lest they get fired as well, workers said.&quot;\" href=\"http:\/\/teamsternation.blogspot.com\/2011\/09\/amazon-warehouse-ambulances-wait.html\" rel=\"nofollow\">Amazon has Ambulances Wait Outside Warehouse on Hot Days<\/a> (Sep 20, 2011)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/amazon-forced-employees-to-work-brutal-hours-in-100-degree-warehouse-or-face-termination-39a6f92bdc7c\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">Amazon Forced Employees To Work Brutal Hours In 100 Degree Warehouse Or Face Termination<\/a> (Think Progress)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.laobserved.com\/biz\/2011\/09\/amazon_workers_night.php\" rel=\"nofollow\">Amazon workers&#8217; nightmare shows what happens when jobs are scarce<\/a> (LA Observed)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Apparently learning nothing<\/span><\/strong> from the bad publicity over employees suffering from heat stroke, last month that same <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Amazon warehouse left their workers standing outside in sub-freezing temperatures<\/span> because apparently identifying who pulled the fire alarm was more important than letting them die from exposure:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>On Dec. 3, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Cetronia Ambulance Corps transported <\/span>six Amazon warehouse workers to the hospital to be treated for <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">cold exposure <\/span><\/strong>following a fire alarm evacuation, said Larry Wiersch, CEO of the nonprofit ambulance service.<\/p>\n<p>About <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">30 other people got into ambulances to warm up<\/span>, he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was cold \u2014 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>26 degrees<\/strong><\/span> \u2014 and it was windy,&#8221; Wiersch said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There were <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">pregnant women<\/span>, men and women in T-shirts and shorts, some with sleeveless shirts and shorts,&#8221; one complaint states.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">People were passing out and feeling ill left and right.<\/span> \u2026 I am <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">absolutely disgusted with this company&#8217;s practices<\/span> and I do believe <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">OSHA should visit<\/span> this building and give them some sort of coaching on how to better handle the situation before there are more <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">people suffering from hypothermia<\/span>.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>These incidents make it painfully obvious that <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Amazon does not consider their employee&#8217;s lives<\/span><\/strong> when making business decisions. It is up to us to hold companies like this accountable for their actions.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">You don&#8217;t have ambulances stand by &#8211; <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">you FIX THE PROBLEM! <\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">If we look the other way and continue to buy from Amazon and promote them as affiliates <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">we are equally complicit<\/span> and guilty of enabling them to <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">intentionally endanger lives<\/span> by negligent homicide or even criminal negligence.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>The best way to get the attention of those who worship money<\/strong><br>\n<strong>is this: <a title=\"&quot;It was a striking snapshot of the underbelly of the Internet economy: Amazon arranged with the local ambulance service to have vehicles stationed outside the warehouse on peak heat days.
