More Than a Brochure Online
WE MUST BE BOLD (WMBB) is a community design studio whose passion is to help organizations authentically connect with their audiences to build real communities.
WE MUST BE BOLD came to us with a request to NOT make them look like any other agency. They wanted their site to feel ‘more than a brochure online’—they wanted to give potential clients an insight into their thinking—not simply showcase the outcomes of their work.
The result is a manifesto, of sorts, that outlines what ‘community’ means to the WMBB team, featuring hand-drawn sketches straight from the founder’s mind that come to life with the help of JavaScript Object Notation (JSON).

The Brand
With a primary focus on black and white esthetic supported by the strategically placed accents of highlighter green and pink, the WMBB brand walks the line between minimal and bold with perfect precision. In a similar fashion, the two typefaces used for the brand balance each other out with Leitura serving as a neutral body font while Druk, with its versatile font faces, adds character and texture to the brand communication.

Look & Feel
We talked at length with the WMBB team about striking the right balance between minimalist esthetic and visual interest fitting for a design-conscious organization. Our goal was to find a way to make the WMBB site stand out against their competition without alienating site visitors unfamiliar with certain interactions. The overall experience on the site had to be both intriguing and welcoming.
Typhography as a Graphic Element
The typography on the site comes alive with interactions varying from hover effects to scrolling. From the main menu to the accordion elements, typographic micro-interactions help create a hierarchy on the more content-heavy pages and indicate the various states of the elements.

Visual Elements
Due to the nature of their work, there wasn’t much use for photography on the site, outside of the Case Studies. This presented a certain challenge in creating visual interest on the pages. As a solution, we’ve opted for hand-drawn sketches created by the founder of the company, which our team turned into Lottie (JSON) files, sprinkled throughout the site to illustrate some of the concepts discussed.
