Finally starting to get my writing mojo back! Part of that is just working through the post-holiday slump, but partly it's signing up for spnkinkbingo, which has reinvigorated me! Worked on a bunch of different fics this past week, and I think having the variety to choose from helped me not get stuck.

Weekly Word Count (1/12-1/18) = 5,035

Wincest 5+1: realized I wanted to make a couple of tweaks so I read through a few of the scenes and added light edits.

Wincest Weed!Fic: did a read-through and made some edits.

Wincest Sex Pollen: outlined and started drafting.

Most recent non-fiction read focusing on the fashion industry and over-consumption. A bit broad, but well-written.

The Edge of Sadness by Edwin O'Connor
Most recent Pulitzer Prize Winner read. I didn't have high expectations and it kind of blew me out of the water. Understated, but poignant and beautifully written.

The Accusation by Bandi
Most recent audiobook listen as part of my Around the World Reading Challenge for North Korea.It's a collection of fictionalized short stories critical of the regime and I thought it was brilliant.

Oh man, the muse, she has been struggling!! I *want* to write, but a lot of my fics are at tricky bits and my brain has not been functioning at peak performance, so any sign of roadblock right now and the words dry right up. But honestly, nothing I'm working on right now has a firm deadline, so I'm trying to be flexible and remind myself that if a certain fic isn't flowing, I can open up any one of my many, many WIPs and work on that! Anything at this point just to try and get some writing momentum, because I know the longer I stall out, the harder it'll be to get going again.

Wincest Season 7 Coda: sent to beta!

Wincest 5+1: sent to beta!

Wincest Panty!Kink: wrote a couple of paragraphs.

Wincest Does New Mexico: started drafting.

Dream!Fic - HP: went back and drafted the smut scene placeholder, and then wrote a couple of paragraphs of the final scene.

Monster Daddy Sam Collab: dusted off ye olde WIP, did a read-through with very light edits, and refined the outline a bit in preparation to actually start writing again!

Most recent non-fiction read. I really enjoyed it, a lot more than The Body Keeps Score, which is more well-known, but didn't resonate as much with me.

The Scapegoat by Sophia Nikolaidou
Most recent read for my Around the World Reading Challenge for Greece. Overall I enjoyed it, but it wasn't what I'd been expecting and I think those mismatched expectations sort of prevented me from fulling getting absorbed.

The Saint of Steel Series Books 2 & 3 by T. Kingfisher
I really enjoy this author and this steampunk fantasy-type series is a delight! Book 3 features a MM couple, which was lovely, and I'm very excited that there'll be more books to look forward to.

Seanceon a Summer's Night by Josh Lanyon
Most recent MM romance read. I generally very much enjoy this author and I definitely prefer their full-length novels over their short stories given their tendency to short-change us on the conclusion.

2022 Writing Goals + January Plan

2022 GOALS
2022 Total Word Count Goal: 150,000

2022 Total Writing Days Goal: 220

Last year I was just under 200k, and while I think 175k is probably a good goal for me in 2022, I'm also not feeling particularly inspired at the moment, so going with the lower number feels safer. 2022 FIC PRIORITIES

Fests: at least 1 Drarry-specific fest and 1 non-Drarry fest. I have a Drarry fest in mind, but the non-Drarry fest is still up in the air!

Something new: I've still got things on my fannish bucket list and I'd love to check off at least one of them this year! Several items are in progress, so hopefully at least one will come through!

Possible 2022 Kinktober fic: I had an idea for a kinktober fic this year that would work as a sequel to an existing fic and would have the entire month of kinks as part of one fic. It's a bit ambitious to create a 31-chapter kink!fic that reads as a cohesive narrative so, naturally, it did not happen this year! But I've always wanted to do a fic like this, and I think if I start chipping away at it early, I could potentially make it happen. So I did some brainstorming and light outlining/plotting!

Wincest Season Codas: lowkey aiming to write one episode-specific coda/missing scene for every season, and so far I'm at 6/15. I'd love to finish these in 2022, but at minimum I'd want to do 6 of the remaining 9.

Drarry Long!Fic: would love to figure out a way to make this happen, either by sneaking it into a fest, or posting on its own.

Monthly posting!: LOL, pretty self-explanatory!

JANUARY
January Word Count Goal: 15,000

So far I've written nothing in January due to travel and just general exhaustion. I find I cannot write at all if I'm tired, which is unfortunate, since it's basically my default state. So this might be ambitious, but I am cautiously optimistic that I can get back into the groove...

Possible 2022 Kinktober fic: still a year away, but never too early to plan! Not actively working on this one, but I may end up poking at the outline in December.

Drarry Long!Fic: I'd love to pick this up again and finish in 2022 but still figuring out when that might be.

Monster Daddy Sam Collab: sadly relegated to the back-burner for the moment as my collab buddy has some other projects to focus on.

Wincest Size!Kink: not a high priority, but something to come back to at some point.

Wincest Does New Mexico: vaguely outlined plotbunny for me to write at my leisure.

Sterek!AU: I think I might need to just accept that this is just not happening right now. I've got it outlined but I need to rewatch the movie inspiration to refine, and I've just not been in the mood.

Taking Chances Sequel: on indefinite hiatus. I've got several pages worth of ideas for the sequel, but it's in no cohesive plot form, and IDK if it'll ever come to life.

Pile O' Plot Bunnies: I currently have a list of over 20 concrete plot bunny ideas. Some of things I'll try and incorporate into fests or daily deviant themes. Some are sequels or codas to existing fics of mine. There are a couple of ideas here that I REALLY want to write at some point, so I'm always keeping an eye out for a good opportunity to prioritize one of my ideas.

Most recent non-fiction read and, like all of Brown's work, I freaking loved it!

On a Midnight Clear by Lily Morton
This was fine but not as good as her other books. She doesn't usually write supernatural-type stuff and I felt like it showed.

The Nobleman's Guide to Scandal and Shipwrecks by Mackenzi Lee
I've loved this whole series, and though I had some quibbles with this one, overall it was great fun!

Hotel Silence by Auður Ava Ólafsdóttir
This kind of read like Diet "A Man Called Ove" to me. It was fine, but didn't knock my socks off.

This has been such a stellar year for hd_erised in terms of some really stunning creations--recs to come next month!--but if you're a Drarry fan I really do suggest checking the fest out! Title: Sports Star

Unfortunately, that secret is about to be exposed to Draco Malfoy.
Seriously super hot fic with Harry and Draco as rival Quidditch players and Harry attempting to hold it just a *little* too long, which results in Draco witnessing the aftermath in the locker room. I loved their dynamic here and the bit of kink as part of a greater discovery on Harry's part of enjoying being bossed around a bit. The watersports here was pretty light so this would be a great fic for those who might generally shy away from it!

Suuuper hot fic with Draco and Harry essentially working as Magical Firefighters and coming across one another during a controlled burn gone wrong. I loved how grown-up and competent they both were, and the chemistry between them sizzled!

Harry can’t get the words out, but Ron is by his side, the back of his hand pressed against Harry’s, his eyebrows scrunched up as he sobs quietly.

“Stay,” Ron whispers after dinner, when everyone gets ready for bed, pale faces looking empty and wiped out. “Don’t go back to Grimmauld Place. Stay here, Harry. Please…”

Harry nods, then follows Ron upstairs, to the room where they’ve spent countless summer evenings, chatting in bed with a laugh and a cheeky grin on their faces.

They lie in the dark in silence this time, and Harry feels so cold.
Really wonderful fic that takes place right after the end of the war and chronicles the following year as Harry and Ron heal and come together. I loved the characterizations here--both of Harry & Ron and of the background characters--and the dynamic and build between them was perfection. This just hit all my buttons!

Great post-series AU (no wives) with Jensen and Jared finally coming together. I really liked the slight character bleed and the way J2 addressed it and respected it without letting Dean and Sam take over!

Sam's seventeen when something happens that makes him realize Dean might have ~feelings~ for him, which triggers some realizations of his own. Brilliant characterizations, super hot, and I really love their relationship in this series.

This last week started out strong, then petered out. I ended up writing my Wincest season coda, which I really wanted to get done this month, but then I basically lost all energy to work on anything else. I know a lot of that is just holiday/socialization burnout, and I don't see that letting us until well into January, but we'll see how this next week goes!

Another slow but steady week. I don't have anything super pressing on right now, and generally just feeling a bit tired overall, which always makes writing more difficult for me. I also realized that my current HP project is really more of a "one scene a week" inspiration at the moment, and I hadn't yet landed on my next Wincest project, so I pulled in an old partially-written plot bunny to work on and that helped boost the muse. I'm really strongly feeling Supernatural, and I think it's helpful for to remember that and stop trying to force too much HP. I want to keep writing HP, and I have several WIPs I want to finish, but I should see them more as a side dish as opposed to the main event, because otherwise my muse just tanks.

Get Your Words Out in 2022!

I just signed up for my 6th year of getyourwordsout, which, if you've never heard of it, is basically all about setting a yearly writing goal--either a word count or number of writing days--with monthly check-ins to see how you're doing. There's a really active community, spreadsheets, sprint rooms, and generally just a lot of awesome encouragement to help you reach your writing goals.

You can find out more about the community and how it all works here, but essentially there are 8 levels of participation for the word count goals raging from 75k words in a year to 1 million, and 4 levels of participation for the habit pledge, 120/180/240/350 writing days. The two "tracks" are mutually exclusively, and the idea is to choose whichever goal will best motivate you to write! Personally, I formally sign up for a word count goal, but informally track my number of writing days.

There are a ton of really interesting and thought-provoking posts on writing that go up throughout the year, and there's no shortage of support if you need it. I personally mostly just interact with the check-ins, as I'm pretty self-motivated outside of that, so you can really pick and choose what works best for you.

Anyway, if you're the kind of person who likes structure and goals (like me!) then I'd totally recommend. Sign-ups are open until January 17th! :D

Wednesday Words

Again, a bit of a struggle this week, though ultimately a not-unrespectable amount of words. Part of my issue is that I haven't quite landed on the next Wincest fic I want to write, which left me without a project after finishing edits on my most recent fic. I also got my booster and that took me out of commission for a couple of days. Still figuring out my next Wincest project, but I've pulled up one of my HP fics that is pretty close to finished and was able to make some progress on that--I'd love to finish it this month if I can, which should be doable, muse willing.

Weekly Word Count (12/1-12/7) = 3,174

Wincest 5+1: went through initial edits.

Dream!Fic - HP: read through existing draft and made some light edits, and wrote most of the next scene.

Most recent Pulitzer Prize Winner read. Not worth the paper it was printed on.

November Writing Wrap-Up + December Goals

2021 Total Word Count Goal: 188,595 / 175,000

2021 Total Writing Days Goal: 237 / 220

This was always going to be a stretch goal between ~9 days of international travel, my birthday/activities, Thanksgiving/activities, and a shit ton of proofing/modly work for Erised all happening this month. Fell short, which wasn't unexpected, but it's still not my lowest WC month of the year even with all of those legit excuses, so I'm not unhappy with it.
NOVEMBER ROUND-UP

Wincest Weed!Fic: sent to beta!

S1 Wincest Missing Scene:sent to & got back from beta, went through beta edits, did final read-through, and posted! You can read it here.

Wincest 5+1: outlined & wrote the first draft!

Possible 2022 Kinktober fic: I had an idea for a kinktober fic this year that would work as a sequel to an existing fic and would have the entire month of kinks as part of one fic. It's a bit ambitious to create a 31-chapter kink!fic that reads as a cohesive narrative so, naturally, it did not happen this year! But I've always wanted to do a fic like this, and I think if I start chipping away at it early, I could potentially make it happen. So I did some brainstorming and light outlining/plotting!

Drarry Plotbunny: went through beta edits and did final read-through!

DECEMBER GOALS
December Word Count Goal: 12,000

December tends to be either one of my best writing months of the year or one of my worst, and still TBD on where that will land this year! I've got a ton going on IRL, and nothing big or wildly pressing to work on writing-wise, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's a bit more subdued. I'd low-key love to hit 200k words for the year (50k more than my original goal/how much I wrote last year) purely for the fun of it, but I won't be fussed if it doesn't happen.

December Fics to Focus On

Vampire!Wincest: go through edits if I get back from beta.

A Relationship Unravels: go through edits if I get back from beta.

Wincest Weed!Fic: go through edits if I get back from beta.

Wincest 5+1: go through initial edits and send to beta.

Wincest Season Codas: lowkey aiming to write one episode-specific coda/missing scene for every season, and so far I'm at 5/15. Would love to write one this month, and I'm lowkey planning to do a rewatch of S7 to see if anything sparks.

Wincest plotbunnies: not sure what is calling to me yet, but I'll likely pull from one of the three plot bunnies below that I've already outlined/started drating, or maybe I'll start something new.

Dream!Fic - HP: I'd like to work on at least one HP thing this month, and this one is closest to finished so I might try and write at least one scene.

Upcoming Fics / Stuff on the back-burner

Possible 2022 Kinktober fic: still a year away, but never too early to plan! Not actively working on this one, but I may end up poking at the outline in December.

Drarry Long!Fic: also moved to the backburner as I think I don't have the spoons to work on such a long project right now with everything else on. Planning to pick it up again in the new year.

Monster Daddy Sam Collab: sadly relegated to the back-burner for the moment as my collab buddy has some other projects to focus on.

Wincest Size!Kink: not a high priority, but something to come back to at some point.

Wincest Panty!Kink: not a high priority, but something to come back to at some point.

Wincest Does New Mexico: vaguely outlined plotbunny for me to write at my leisure.

Sterek!AU: I think I might need to just accept that this is just not happening right now. I've got it outlined but I need to rewatch the movie inspiration to refine, and I've just not been in the mood.

Taking Chances Sequel: on indefinite hiatus. I've got several pages worth of ideas for the sequel, but it's in no cohesive plot form, and IDK if it'll ever come to life.

Pile O' Plot Bunnies: I currently have a list of over 20 concrete plot bunny ideas. Some of things I'll try and incorporate into fests or daily deviant themes. Some are sequels or codas to existing fics of mine. There are a couple of ideas here that I REALLY want to write at some point, so I'm always keeping an eye out for a good opportunity to prioritize one of my ideas.

Most recent non-fiction read and I thought it was fascinating. Lacking a bit in terms of inclusivity, though efforts are made, but many of the observations are broadly applicable IMO to anybody in long-term romantic/sexual relationships.

Satellites by Lenrie Peters
Most recent read for my Around the World Reading Challenge for the Gambia. It was a book of poetry and for some reason I just didn't quite connect with the prose.

Chronicles of Alsea #10 by Fletcher DeLancey
I started this series back in January and it's a little bittersweet to realize it's over now!! Queer Sci-Fi for the win--I really enjoyed this series overall!

Much lower than I'd prefer, but higher than I was expecting, TBH. Between travelling, recovering from travelling, RL stuff, and lots of Erised proofing/modly duties, I've not had a ton of time or spoons for writing. October Writing Wrap-Up + November Goals

October Word Count Goal: 15,593 / 15,000

2021 Total Writing Days Goal: 221 / 220

Honestly just hitting my word count target, which I'm actually very pleased about because I wasn't sure I'd make it at all. Had an anticipated slow-down in writing due to RL busyness, and sadly had to end up nixxing my idea to finish my Drarry long!fic in time to post as an anti-advent fic, but overall I'm satisfied with my progress
OCTOBER ROUND-UP

S8 Wincest Feelz: went through beta edits, did final read-through, and posted! You can read it here.

Drarry Long!Fic: wrote 4 and a bit scenes and officially decided to table the plans to finish in time for advent posting. It might have still been possible, but between RL obligations, travel, and modly stuff for Erised, it would have been really stressful.

hpkinktober: outlined, drafted, sent to beta, went through final edits and posted! You can read it here!

Drarry Gift Drabbles: finished writing and posted!

This... might be ambitious? Between vacation and holiday travel, I'm going to be AFK probably close to half the month, and most of my limited fandom time will be delegated to various Erised modly duties. I also don't have anything super pressing in terms of deadlines, but I do want to try and keep some writing momentum, so I'm gonna shoot for 15k, though I'm guessing it might end up lower.
