Poverty in #America, he says, compared to the rest of the world, is not severe. Many poor people in poverty in the United States have one or two cars, central heating, and cell phones. The real problem for the poor is the destruction of the family, which Sowell argues dramatically increased once #welfare #policies were introduced in the #1960s.
He is correct and it was done on purpose, #marxism (and all the ideologies that stem from it) and #feminism mean to destroy the family unit.

He explains the economic theories behind these pervasive myths and proposes fact-based solutions for seemingly intractable situations.

Sowell discusses his early life as a high school dropout and his first full-time job as a Western Union messenger delivering telegrams. He admits to flirting with #Marxism in his early twenties as he first tried to grapple with the housing inequality he saw across the neighborhoods of New York City. Marxism, he says, was the only explanation he could find at the time. He went on to serve in the Marine Corps before continuing his #education in economics at Harvard and earning a master’s at Columbia and a PhD at the #University of Chicago.

Sowell’s first job after his receiving his PhD in #economics was working for the Department of Labor, and he says it was there that he realized Marxism was not the answer. He argues that the #government has its own institutional interests in inequality that cannot be explained through Marxism. He began to be discouraged by Marxism and the government in general and began searching for better economic #ideas and #solutions (the free market).

Robinson and Sowell discuss Sowell’s written works, his ideas of racial and economic inequality, the state of the United States today, and much more.

The civil war has been going on for a long time. It started in academia decades ago with post-modernism and post-structuralists attacking logic and language itself. Decades down the line "unpack" and "deconstruct" are common terms in the leftist lexicon, and gives you silly arguments like redefining "racism" to be the privilege-power paradigm which functions to exonerate people from personal responsibility(re: rioting, re: actual widescale insurrection with corporate sponsorship).

It's a cultural war, and what you're seeing with the DNC is widespread cognitive dissonance, leading to them tearing themselves apart. Let's just get on with it already, because the theatrics are exhausting.

Even right now the vast majority of rioters are still "only" trying to force their will on others through non-lethal force. You could call that civil unrest with the ever-present threat of escalating violence. War is the point where the mainstream, status-quo belief is that the only way to end the violence is to kill the enemy. When that point is reached I promise you that you'll know. A cultural war where ideologues try to gain political power by taking over institutions and control discourse is just regular peacetime corruption, and it could have easily been dealt with through peaceful means if people hadn't been sleeping on it.

The post-modernism of Foucault and Derrida was more or less exhausted as an academic concern by the late-80s. However, it was integrated with Critical Theory to produce what we may now call Critical Social Justice based on ideas about intersectionality by Crenshaw, and Robin DiAngelo and her ideas about 'White fragility' and 'White privilege' are very fashionable right now. Many Progressives parrot these ideas with probably very little understanding of their genealogy and certainly no understanding of their very shaky basis.

A Genealogy of Amorality, if you'll indulge a shitty allusion. There are many crossroads there, but critical(race) theory, third wave feminism, and even overt Marxism converge heavily at various points, almost to where they cannot be divorced from one another.

IIRC Critical Race Theory is the close cousin of a lot of Progressive thought right now but is itself much more rigorous than the latter having come from legal circles. My main issue with a lot of what may loosely be called Critical Social Justice (with Robin DiAngelo being one of most well-known exponents) is that it puts itself beyond all scrutiny with any criticism of itself being accounted for internally within the theory and auto-rendered invalid. At bottom, it says that these or that facts about oppression are true because of the 'lived experience' of the oppressed; that's the only way to decide what's true. No wonder it seems to appeal to latent-authoritarians.

CRT functions as a closed system which contains it's own memetic "antivirus," if you'll suffer that framework for expressive purposes. I did read an interesting abstract not too long ago regarding CRT, specifically regarding intersectionality and conceptual alignment with third wave feminism and Marxism.

TLDR;
The liberals, feminists, activists, the Left and Democrats are thoroughly brainwashed and have devolved into a cult. The refused to acknowledge it because they avoid discourse and keep to their own cozy bubbles and above all have a superiority complex - they think they are correct thus above scrutiny and see themselves as saviors (via deconstructing/destroying "evil christian white straight hetero capitalist patriarchy"). Deeply severely delusional self serving hypocritcal destructive bunch.

#criticaltheory, #leftism, #dnc, #marxists, #democrats, #marxism, #leftists, #politics, #feminism, #cults, #brainwashing, #feminists, #academia, #corruption, #activism, #extremists, #ideologues, #ideology, #subversion, #leftwing, #liberals, #indoctrination, #education, #progressives, #progressivism, #criticalracetheory, #authoriarians, #zealots, #sjws, #socialjusticewarriors, #intersectionality, #socialjustice, #socjus, #deconstructionism, #radicals, #cult, #liberalism, #regressives, #racetheory, #genderstudies, #womenstudies, #sociology, #socialsciences, #college, #university, #universtities

I mean I’m opposed to racism, you’re opposed to racism but that’s because we have a moral standard that’s not purely subjective and so this combination I think that they teach you “there’s no such thing as the good and the true and the beautiful” so that you have no defense against their vicious French Revolution style defamatory attacks. I think that they want to weaken your sense of morality so they have more control over you.
— [source]
