Appearance:
Hotness is totally prevalent in the Hawke family genes, and Bethany is no exception. She looks a bit like her siblings, naturally, especially her twin brother Carver; brown eyes and black hair. She is also kind of short and scrawny -- not very muscular at all, because lol mages. Her breasts, however, are not nearly as large as Varric might tell you.
Personality:
"I had a twin brother, Carver. He used to nail my braid to the bed while I was sleeping. I never thought I'd miss him this much."
Though Bethany is the youngest of the Hawke siblings, it is easy to assume otherwise, as she often takes up the role of the more mature and responsible sister. It is usually her job to break up Marian and Carver's squabbles and bring the two of the back to reality to remind them of the situation at hand (i.e., fleeing from the darkspawn in Lothering). Despite seeming so straight-laced, however, she is just as capable of snark and sarcasm as her brother and sister -- she is a Hawke, after all. And while her siblings frustrate and perplex her to no end at times, they are all she has left in the world, and she would not trade them for anything. Caver's death made a heavy impact on her; though she was not as close to Carver as she is to Marian, he was still her brother, her twin, and she feels like a part of her died on that day.

More than being the voice of reason among her siblings, however, her status as an illegal mage is a very large part of who Bethany is as a person. She has been an apostate all her life, constantly in hiding from the templars, lest she be taken to the Circle of Magi, away from her family. It's not a lifestyle she enjoys, and sometimes she finds herself resenting it; not out of jealousy for her less magical siblings, though, but more her dependence on them. She appreciates all that her family and friends do for her, but she feels a bit of guilt for it, too. She wishes she could do the same for them.
There was a brief point, after becoming a Grey Warden, where all that bottled up resentment kind of exploded all over Marian. Marian didn't almost die in the Deep Roads. Marian didn't have to join the Grey Wardens and suffer through dreams of the Archdemon and the Blight in her blood. Marian's life is easy! This lasted for a few years and resulted in a lot of passive-aggressive letters, but Bethany eventually came to realize that all these things happened because her sister was trying to protect her -- and now, several years later, she understands and appreciates that a lot more, and their relationship is stronger than ever.
Varric's nickname for her is "Sunshine," which is as astute an analysis of Bethany as any. She is one of the more optimistic members of Hawke's merry little band of misfits, second only to Merrill. Despite the tragedies she's been through, she still believes in the goodness of others, even in the Circle and the Chantry. It is also because of Bethany's efforts that her mother is inspired to try and reclaim the Amell estate. Overall, she is one bright light in the Champion's otherwise dark and somewhat grim life, and a pleasant enough girl to have around -- even if she's a bit of a stick in the mud at times.
