ATG Article of the Week of May 16
The Erosion of Fair Use Protections for Digital Scholarship by Stanley Wilder, The Charleston Advisor. April 2011,  pp.57-58.

Wilder, University Librarian at the University of North Carolina in Charlotte, defends the doctrine of fair use, codified in Section 107 of the Copyright Act, which states that individuals may use portions of copyrighted works without having to obtain permission from the copyright holder. Many license agreements, however, attempt to limit fair use. Wilder calls for careful review of license agreements and advocates the use of language that helps reverse the erosion of fair use principles.
