The GLOBE Observer app enables you to make observations of your environment. GLOBE Observer is the app of the Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) Program. The GLOBE Program is an international science and education program that provides students and people of all ages worldwide with the opportunity to participate in data collection and the scientific process, and contribute meaningfully to our understanding of the Earth system and global environment. By using the GLOBE Observer app, you contribute scientific data to your community, students and scientists worldwide, including researchers at NASA, NOAA, and other science research institutions. GLOBE Observer allows all users to contribute observations of clouds, mosquito habitats, land cover, and trees. Trained and certified users can also use the app to submit additional environmental measurements from all GLOBE protocols. GLOBE Clouds allows observers to make regular observations of Earth’s cloud cover and compare them to satellite observations. With GLOBE Mosquito Habitat Mapper, users locate mosquito habitats, observe and identify mosquito larvae, and reduce the potential threat of mosquito borne disease. GLOBE Land Cover is designed to allow users to document what is on the land (trees, grass, buildings, etc.). GLOBE Trees asks users to estimate a tree’s height by taking pictures of trees with their device and answering a few questions. Additional capabilities may be added. Version History The GLOBE Observer app includes Clouds, Mosquito Habitat Mapper, Land Cover and Trees in sixteen languages. Fully trained GLOBE users will also see protocols for atmosphere, hydrosphere and biosphere. This release includes some bug fixes and updated capabilities for improved performance. 3.8.0 10/18/2024 The GLOBE Observer app now includes the Clouds, Mosquito Habitat Mapper, Land Cover and Trees tools in eleven different languages. This latest release also includes various bug fixes and enhancements, improved compass performance, and support for off-line data collection. 3.0 10/11/2019 Our latest update includes minor fixes and enhancements. Look for more language support, a new share option and special support for the 2017 North American eclipse. 1.3.0 08/14/2017 In addition to adding more data collection opportunities for clouds and satellite flyover notifications, GLOBE Observer now includes the new Mosquito Habitat Mapper app. GLOBE Mosquito Habitat Mapper allows users to locate mosquito habitats, observe and identify mosquito larvae, and reduce the potential threat of mosquito borne disease. 1.2.0 03/01/2017 This update corrects a problem that required some users to re-login each time they opened the app. 1.1.3 10/06/2016 This update fixes a problem that caused the app to crash in iOS 10. 1.1.2 09/22/2016 - A new augmented-reality compass is now available to assist users with taking pictures at the ideal directions and angle. - Captions can now be added to photos while recording an observation. - "Help" can now be viewed while recording an observation and without losing your progress. - Some data validation now occurs in real-time. - Misc.
