Global Network Inventory 3.1

Global Network Inventory is a network tool that helps system administrators to audit and deploy PC environments. The program also acts as a hardware administration tool since it’s capable of auditing/detecting switches, network printers and other devices on a network.

This program is really helpful in security matters, since it can be set to run as a script along with the user’s network login and connect to a database to keep track of items. All computers connected to a network can be audited automatically by setting up a schedule, and can be identified by IP, domain or network inventory. Usually scans can be extremely slow but with Global Network Inventory administrators can customize the scans to get the results only from the required elements.

This version keeps track of previous scans and features a history of results from selected addresses, domains, etc. Additionally the reports can be exported and customized with desired formats and colors in XML, HTML or Excel. What is more, reports can be programmed to be sent automatically by e-mail and/or be stored on the disk.

The only setback of Global Network Inventory is the fact that it is licensed by network address rather than by user. The number of required licenses can be customized, but this increases its price too much.
