Currently, widgets appear as floating windows on top of other applications. It would be great to have an option to lock widgets to the desktop layer, so they sit behind all open windows, i.e. visible only when the desktop is showing, similar to how macOS desktop widgets.

For users who want a clean, information-rich desktop without widgets intruding on their workflow, the current always-on-top (or floating) behavior can be distracting. A desktop-layer mode would let widgets serve as ambient desktop decorations rather than overlay elements.
